How's The Game?

In this round of game discussion, I am going to again open up the topic of Paradisa’s future. While you all are free to bring up other ideas or issues, the topics below are the most pressing. In addition, this is not an HMD for the players/characters. Such crit should be reserved for the HMD meme, taken to an individual HMD, or brought to myself either on the complaint form or through my email (ladyraab@gmail.com).
As was mentioned last round, Paradisa is a very long running game that has shrunken considerably in recent months. We now have less than thirty characters and a small handful of players, and the numbers are only shrinking still. In addition, activity across the comms is sparse, and participation in plots even more so. It comes to us now to decide if the game is something we, the remaining player base, would continue to participate in, or should we admit defeat and close our doors? I still feel there is a lot of potential in the setting, but all that needs players to realize it.
To help decide this, here is a breakdown of points I would like input on. Taken together, these will determine the course of action that will be taken.
ACTIVITY CHECK
Paradisa’s current two proof system is simply to untenable with the number of players we now have. With that said, no matter what is decided in regards to the future of the game one of these two options WILL be implemented at the end of this month and ALL strikes from last month’s AC will be forgiven.
Option 1 – Activity will be reduced to one proof. Ideally, this would mean cutting it in half, meaning either one post or log, or fifteen thread comments total. Other ideas on this are welcome
Option 2 – Activity will be eliminated. No proofs will be required, and game membership will only be sustained through a monthly check-in.
PLOTS
The mod team’s first month in office was a rocky one, and I’ve learned quite a bit about what the game can handle as it stands. I apologize for overloading anyone. Plots in the future will be much more low-key and require less action from other players for advancement. That said, should the game continue, some input on the future of the plots in general needs to be determined. The last plot provided a preview into what I had planned to be a new direction for the metaplot. In the interest of furthering discussion, I will peel back the curtain a bit and say that it essentially focuses on a continued struggle for power and remaining secondary castles founded by the so-called Five. New game elements, like loss regains and individual tasks given to characters by the castle were also in the conceptual stage. However, to make a plotline like that function, some of the player base must be interested in it. So, with that said, would you prefer:
Option 1 – Continue with the metaplot as planned
Option 2 – Drop the metaplot. The game will only have lightly-moderated background plots, and no more than one in a month. Nothing plot-intensive or heavy will be scheduled.
THE FUTURE
This is the big question, and the question I want all of you to ask yourselves. What keeps you in this game? Is it just your CR? Or is it elements of the game itself? Or is it both? If one of those things were removed, would that make you drop? If we face the possibility that no one applies to the game again, how long are you willing to sustain with the group we have?
Option 1 – Immediate closure. No endgame. No plot. We just close at the end of the month
Option 2 – Quick endgame. Current plotlines will be abandoned and a quick endgame will be devised that will either send all characters home or leave the game open for a change in premise at a later date (see option #4)
Option 3 – Long endgame. The metaplot will be continued as planned, but lead ultimately to a situation as outlined in #2
Option 4 – Total reboot/splinter game (can be combined with one of the above options). The game closes while I work on a new setting based on the world of Paradisa, either converting it to a nexus game where characters may come and go between their own world, or moving them to one of the other castles and involving the dead (or dying) Paradisa in the background. This could take several months to accomplish, as the game structure will need to be totally rewritten and re-envisioned.
Option 5 – Stay open
I would like input from all players on these matters before a decision is made, but considering the short term nature of some of the options, this will be open for discussion for one week, or until September 25th. I may individually contact members if I do not hear from you by then. I would prefer open discussion, but if for any reason you do not want to weigh in public, you may contact me privately as well. Anon commenting will also be enabled.
