Just a quick additional note on some adjustments to policy for the final month. After being approached with the idea, I've decided to allow former players/characters to re-join the game without applying during this period. Meaning, if you had a character in game before, you can re-join the game during the month of December without submitting an application. Additional losses will not be necessary in the case of returning with memories, but old losses will be retained. All you need to do is comment to the new character page before requesting to join, so I can recognize the character account.

Any new characters or players must still apply, though I will try to make the process as quick as possible for interested parties.

When I proposed the future of the game three months ago, I set the plots that followed as a test of how the game was going to do with the metaplot and players remaining. A test, I believe, that we’ve failed. While Paradisa as a whole is still full of wonderful, talented, dedicated people, it’s become apparent that it cannot sustain. Both regular plots and the metaplot have little chance of progressing when our speed is what it is, and I see now that I cannot make Paradisa be the game I wanted, or really let its plot develop as its history and lore deserve. While this isn’t an easy choice to make, especially considering how certain I was in the beginning of what I could do to make Paradisa into something better, I feel now that it’s the right choice.

Accordingly, December will be the last official month for Paradisa. I’ve set up a plot schedule (to follow), that should allow some manner of closure for the characters, and in the end how you leave the castle will be your story to write. In light of this, all activity requirements are henceforth suspended.

On January 1st, 2015, Paradisa will close forever.

A more fitting farewell message will come at that time, although maybe there’s little that can be said to do justice to all the memories and history.

Thank you all, in the meantime, for being a part of the journey.

Two things, Paradisans!

First, a reminder about our AC policy. Paradisa, as of now, officially operates on Eastern Standard Time. Please take care, especially in regards to last minute posts, that your posts or comments are actually dated before the end of the AC period. Furthermore, the AC period is from the first of a given month to the last day of that month. All posts and comments must be dated during this window.

A poll regarding a potential change of game timezone will go up next month, but in the meantime, observance of this policy is appreciated.

Secondly, the Mineas Well expedition is official underway as of today. There will only be ONE official log for this event posted near the middle of the trip, somewhere around November 17th. If you would like to post any traveling/camping logs or posts during that time, you are more than welcome to do so. Additionally, the paradisabeyond comm was created for expeditions like this, but was done so with the mindset that expedition logs would distract from activity from those not participating. I feel this is not a factor at this juncture, so the paradisabeyond community will not be utilized for this plot.

Hey guys! This is Iddy, your maintenance mod. First things first, a player pinged me to let me know that the drops page has not been taken care of for a few weeks, and some dropped characters are still listed on the taken characters pages. I'm really sorry about that! I'm still working out a few of the kinks re: transitioning to modship, and in this case my alerts to myself spontaneously turned themselves off (this... happens on my computer sometimes). Rest assured that the problem has been fixed and the drops page will now be updated in a weekly manner along with the rest of the pages!

Next up is step two of revamping game pages. On the taken characters pages, you'll notice each character has a link for "HMD" and "profile". Currently, a few of the profile links lead to now-defunct wiki pages, or to an empty journal profile. I'm going to be going through and removing those, but if you have anything to replace it, please drop me a line on the new characters page! Having extra info in your journal isn't required, but if you'd like to provide some extra info to other players (whether in the form of a bio entry, a coded journal profile, or simply a link to their app), this is the place to do it.

Hey all, your other new helper mod Jay here with a big fat two-parter mod post. Stick around, I promise it's fun stuff!!

Just so you guys know, in addition to taking over AC, I am going to be working both on my own and closely with Rebecca to get some events on the calendar ASAP and running lots of exciting plots of various sizes and lengths going forward! You'll get a more official rundown of all our individual responsibilities when we've got that stuff entirely sorted, but rest assured that we're already busy little modly bees behind the scenes.

On that note: As I sat down yesterday and hashed out the game-wide plot I've been talking about for a while, it actually got away from me a bit and became much bigger than I had initially thought it would be. For a few moments I wondered if it would be too much for the game, and then I laughed because I'm pretty sure nothing is too much for you guys and your insatiable creativity and curiosity. Once I had it down on paper for the most part, I couldn't help but want to share that fact and keep everyone in the loop as to what we've got in the works for the immediate future of the game.

PART I: BIG OLD AUGUST PLOT TEASER

From my point of view as a player, I want to see some big, fun, involved plots in this game again, and I know darn well that I'm not alone in that! We're definitely a smaller/slower game at this point, but I get the sense that everyone would still rather see things pick up. That being said, we're going to go ahead and assume the best and just start running bigger and more frequent plots.

So: This is your first heads up that pending me finishing the write-up and the mod team ironing out the details, around the end of August there will be a Big Involved Horror/Adventure Plot with a ton of different options for participation. Since there's going to be a lot to choose from, I want to give you all ample opportunity to sign up for roles and plot with each other ahead of time, so it'll be pushed back a few weeks to facilitate all that.

Without giving too much away, here are some details:

  • It will be almost entirely opt-in with the exception of a few castle-wide aesthetic changes. It'll be pretty hard to miss all the stuff that will be going on, but by no means is any character required to participate directly.
  • For the most part, you'll be able to do as much or as little as you want with it at a pace that works for you. Quite a few aspects will be 100% backtag friendly. Others will involve brief time-sensitive (within 24 hours) boomerang threads with NPCs - A.K.A. me. Sup.
  • There will be sign-ups for captures, deaths, possible deaths, and certain roles that need to be fulfilled to move things along. The story progression and certain outcomes will depend on the actions of Paradisa's residents, and there will be a quite a few things going on at once for variety, including stuff that players can initiate entirely on their own independent of the overall plot.
  • The initial write-up will be released well before the plot begins and will include all kinds of juicy info for you to use how you will.
  • Finally, there will be an overall Big Bad and a battle at the end that could go several ways!
  • Bonus: Additional permanent losses for deaths associated with this event will be suspended. Your character must still pay a steep price of your own design upon being brought back to life, but it will not last forever.

Exciting, yes?! I'm really looking forward to this and I can't wait to see how it all unfolds since even I don't know how things will ultimately wrap up. It all depends on key IC decisions. DUN DUN DUN.

PART II: NOTES ON PLOT SUGGESTIONS

Remember, you're all welcome to write up and submit plots to run yourselves - or simply drop random ideas for the mods to play with on the Plot Suggestions page. At this point, if you don't have all the details hashed out but you have an idea for a plot premise that you just wanna throw out there, consider it totally welcome. I know it can be a little intimidating to submit ideas, but I want to make it clear that I'm totally willing to help take your concepts and translate them into game plots so don't be shy! Us mods are here to run the joint and worry about mechanics and continuity and all that jazz, so by all means if all you've got is "I think this would be cool/fun" - have at it. We'll see what we can make of it, and players can be involved with running their suggested plots to the extent you're willing/capable. There's no guarantee we'll use every idea, but the more we have to pull from, the more variety we'll be able to offer.

On the flip side, for those confident and willing, heck yeah go for it and write up detailed plots yourselves and run them. We'll of course go over them and make sure they fit in with the direction of the game and happily coordinate with you on scheduling. I'll be working with Iddy to include a few additional forms on the suggestion page to reflect these various options, but I think as we all work together to build up game activity it's worth emphasizing here in the OOC comm that all ideas are welcome and suggestions do not entail obligations.

TL;DR we've got good stuff brewing and I'm excited. Pretty sure I've talked your ears off enough for now, so I'll leave it at that and say see ya around the game! ♥

Hey everybody! This is Iddy, one of your new helper mods, here today to remind you of some game pages you may have forgotten about (if you're an oldbie) or may not even know about (if you're a newbie). A few of them have been updated recently, so if any of them sound like something you'd be interested in getting your character involved with, check them out!

THE CLINIC. Self-explanatory. It's resident-run and currently has six medics/healers on-staff (plus one volunteer trainee), as well as a security guard/medical supplier. More staff members of any kind are always welcomed!

CASTLENET. The lesser-used alternative to the journals, CastleNet is Paradisa's intranet. It's only useable in the Castle or on its immediate grounds, but it also has some extras that the journals don't have, like games and webhosting opportunities. To use it, all characters have to do is wish up a computer! Those who are tech-savvy enough can also add sites and services for other residents to use and enjoy.

RESIDENT-OWNED PROPERTIES. Also pretty self-explanatory. Characters ambitious enough to start their own business or brave enough to move away from the comforts of the Castle (permanently or temporarily) can set up shop off the Castle grounds. (See the game's FAQ and setting pages for more information on locations outside of the Castle.)

THE GRAVEYARD. Characters who die in Paradisa are brought back to life, but they still get a creepy grave and headstone out of the deal. This also serves as an OOC record of all in-game deaths, so we'd like to keep it as complete and accurate as possible!

THE BESTIARY. For the most part, this is run by the mods, and players can't add new monsters and wildlife willy-nilly. However, characters have been known to be granted pets from home as prizes for events, and others have tamed wild animals. If your character has a pet that other residents might run into, it can be added to the bestiary.

Thank you everyone for your patience these past few weeks! We're very happy to say that Paradisa will be continuing on with an all new staff.

A super huge thank you to our former staff members Ashley, Jenn, Theresa, and Sarah for all their hard work and dedication. Valerie will remain on staff for a short while to help the new team ease into their roles.

Please give a very warm welcome to your new head moderator, Rebecca, and your new helpers Jay and Iddy! Already the new team is excited to get started and share their ideas for the game's future.

It looks like many of you would like to see Paradisa continue! As promised, we are opening applications for moderator positions.

We're looking for active players who would like to step up and take on a primary leadership role in the game. This includes, but is not limited to: planning, creating, and running plots, approving applications, maintaining game pages, resolving player conflict, and fielding questions/concerns.

One of the most important qualities we're looking for is availability. If you're the casual sort of player who just has enough time between school or work to sneak in a few tags, this is likely not the position for you. Being a staff member is a busy job! If you're interested, we'd love to consider you joining the team.

(I wanted to put some time between April Fool's Day and this post, otherwise it would have been posted along with the activity check!)

Starting this month, we are rolling out a new system with regards to the way "strikes" are handled.

A "strike" is essentially when you fail to meet the activity requirements and ask to provide three proofs of activity in the next month. There was previously no system set in place to limit the number of times strikes can be accumulated, but we now feel it is necessary to put into motion something concrete.

Going forward, if a character accumulates three strikes in a period of nine months, the character will be swept from the game.

In addition, because we have moved away from application cycles for characters returning with memories, players must wait 60 days before reapplying for their swept character. This waiting period still applies even if a player intends to "reboot" their swept character by reapplying without memories.

Because we are starting this new system, all players will essentially begin with a "clean slate" this month. That is, if you asked for three proofs in previous months, they will not count toward the new limit. Strikes will begin in May's activity check.

Of course, we are always happy to discuss AC on a case-by-case basis if there's an OOC emergency or other extenuating circumstances. Always feel free to contact us if you have any questions or concerns.

That's it. The castle's had it with doing all the work. On April 1, it's stepping back and letting residents wreak havoc on each other instead.

Whether your characters is a goody two-shoes or totally straight-laced, they will all feel the undeniable urge to pull pranks, either harmless or not so, on each other. Set traps, dress up in silly costumes, drop off mysterious suitcases or even work in teams. Anything's possible in a castle that grants your every wish!

Hey everyone! I'd like to go over a few very important changes that have been made that I think you'll all enjoy.

A few weeks ago, we polled players on the prospect of allowing game imported/CRAU characters. The result was highly in favor of allowing them, so we are happy to announce that beginning immediately, applications for imported/CRAU characters are now open. Hooray!

We have also condensed our application pages! Whereas before we had a different app page for specific mediums, we now have a single page for all general applications. No more confusion about which section you need to place your app; they all go in the same place now. If for any reason you need to find your old application, you can now find them here.

Additionally, we have retired the seasonal app periods for specialty apps. All applications are now open year-round.

You can find our updated application pages here! Each application page will provide a handly link to the others to make it easy to find them.

Lastly, restoring memories can now be found on the character update page.

In light of recent events in DWRP –– Exsilium closing, namely –– the staff got together and discussed the possibility of allowing CRAUs/game imports for new or returning characters in Paradisa. We'd like to pitch this to the game as a part of our changes to Paradisa in 2014.


What is a CRAU/game import?
To put it simply, a "Character Relationship AU"  allows players to keep their characters' memories from previous game(s) when they apply to Paradisa.

We understand that some people invest a lot of time into developing their characters, and some people would like the chance to keep that development when joining a new game (or rejoining this game) rather than having to start that development all over again. Few games in DWRP allow for this, so we feel it could be a good niche for Paradisa.


And while we feel it's a great idea, we know that a decision like this could potentially affect everyone both IC and OOC. As a result, we want to hear from our current playerbase on the matter.

The staff has come up with a list of guidelines that we would implement. We are open to discussion on any other guidelines.


• Doubles would not be allowed. Paradisa would still allow only one incarnation of a character at any time. We would not allow both "X Game Sam Winchester" and "Strictly Canon Sam Winchester" to be in the game at the same time, as they would still have the exact same canon history.

• Characters arriving from previous games would not retain any belongings or cross-canon skills that were obtained in their previous game. That is, Sam Winchester might have learned how to walk on ceilings from his good friend Naruto, but that ability would not carry over into Paradisa. He would also not be able to bring any previous-game-specific items with him.

• Paradisa does not allow original characters or original fandom characters, and this would not change for CRAUs/game imported characters. Sam's long-lost cousin Mandy Winchester would not qualify for our game, but we wish her the best of luck in finding another game that suits her.

• CRAU/game import apps would be on a quarterly basis and would run alongside the returning character apps. These would be considered "Specialty Apps" that would open for two weeks every three months.


We're putting this idea to a vote, but we also encourage discussion in the comments in the post. If you have anything to add, we definitely want to hear it! Thanks for reading.

We need everyone ever to head on over to THIS PAGE and let us know if your characters currently own any properties that are not on the castle grounds. This includes, but is not limited to:

Cabins in the Woods (spoopy or non-spoopy), mansions, casas, hobbit holes, dragon caves, secret clubhouses, houses, apartments above quaint stores in the city, galleries, restaurants, pubs, brothels (ooh la la?), orphanariums, gaudy towers, businesses, etc.

If your character does not own it but they work/reside/play there and you don't see it listed, please list it anyway! Others can fill in the blanks. If you know of any abandoned establishments that aren't listed, please list them as well.

Basically if you are aware of something and it's not listed, let's get them accounted for!
