ACTIVITY CHECK DISCUSSION

Hey guys!

So there's been some confusion and disagreement about what should/should not count for activity check, what is counted where, etc. So this is a post where we'd like to discuss revamping the activity check system with you! Once we can get a clear idea of what everyone feels is fair, it will make it easier for us to have a clear system where everyone understands the activity requirements desired of each character in Paradisa.

SECTIONS:

What do you think should count for a post?
What should constitute thread "size"?
What should constitute comment "quality"?
How much should the mods be responsible for? The players?
How should a thread on a log be judged?

Yeah, that's why we try to then investigate (if we see someone doing this frequently, anyways) and see if they just happened to post then but have a post that looks to be well thought out, that they're intending to tag, etc etc.

That's true! But then I guess we run into the problem of deciding "what qualifies this as a private post that is good"? Does it have to be several paragraphs long? Or will 3 or 4 lines suffice?

Here's the thing: I like to think we're all logical adults. I hate to be a quantifier, but it's generally obvious as to what a "good" post is. Something like, "Well, I guess that's that." is not a private post. Hell, it's barely a complete thought. Whereas something that tells a story, that gives some insight, that has some effort in it? That reads as such.

In the exact same vein that we all know "[Jack is in the kitchen, come bother him!]" is a cop-out post, mods should be able to go through and see what's a genuine private post, and what was just thrown up to avoid repercussions.

I hate to put a sentence count on it, because I don't think that's always the most effective thing, but if it has to go that route, I would say that a private post needs to be a minimum of four lines, and it should preferably read like an actual journal entry, unless that character is speaking directly to the castle or something. I mean, it is a journal, right? Maybe it'd be refreshing if people used it more like that, if they're going to make a private post.

While I completely agree with you, here's the problem: When we say that we're going to judge activity on a case-by-case basis, we get complaints about people not knowing how much is enough. I trust my own judgement but then what happens if someone else has a different idea about what works and what doesn't, what counts and what doesn't?

Yeah, it is a journal, and I would love to see more "Dear Diary" type entries (though I know that not every character is the type to do this, hence the "THIS WAS ACCIDENTALLY DICTATED!" type things).

Then I would make the requirements reasonable. Four sentences isn't a lot to ask, and anything that can be said in one sentence can be elaborated on. Five sentences is the requirement for the app, so anyone who's going to make a private post can certainly meet a four sentence standard.

Anyone who's making private posts is already having their character use the journal as an actual journal, right? It doesn't have to be a "Dear Diary" situation, exactly.
