HOW'S MY DRIVING?

Assume good faith at all times. Crit is meant to be resolved, not "won". Give mutual respect for each other's work and ideas. Aggressiveness creates unproductive stress and conflict. If you are emotionally compromised, you ~~are not fit to captain the Starship Enterprise~~ need to step back, take a break, and then return when you're ready.

Anonymous commenting is ENABLED. Anonymity doesn't detract from the validity of concrit. An anonymous compliment is a compliment; an anonymous crit is still a crit. However, if you are going to post anonymously, consider it your obligation to follow up –– it is frustrating for muns to never get a reply back, and HMD should be first and foremost an ongoing discussion.

We have provided a form to post with, if you would like to use it. Mentioning things like canon points, permanent losses and recent major events in their lives in Paradisa may help give people a better idea of the character's mindset and current actions.

Alternatively, you may choose to post a link to your private HMD thread on the character's journal and take comments there instead. The first thread of this post will be reserved for those people, and we will freeze those comments. People will be expected to follow the link to the character's individual HMD to give crit there.

Different anon here, but I'm reading those replies and I don't see anything that looks passive aggressive. I seriously think you're over-analyzing things.

Always good to hear! I don't know why I lose my confidence with him. I think, because he's one of my favorites, I always want to make sure that I'm doing it right or something. But I'm glad that people have no complaints characterization-wise.

As far as Angel slowly warming up to Spike, I think it's currently one of my favorite dynamics to play out. I'm having a lot of fun, and I can't wait for Spike to find out Angel's been lying about his loss. That should be pretty fun.

I'd like to see Lana hold more of the shady people in her life accountable and be less trusting of them in general. On the one hand I can understand why she would keep them around because they might be useful to her at some point, but on the other I think you sometimes forget to make mention of the fact that she is doing so. It ends up coming off that she is befriending these people she should be extremely wary of without really questioning it. I admit that I may have missed places where you did this, but from what I have seen this is the only real issue that I have personally.

I can't understand why Anya is around. You clearly favor Spike. It feels as though you picked up Anya just to do it or to prevent someone else from doing so. To be fair the Xander player is extremely inactive so I am sure that is frustrating for you. Right now she is reading as pointless to me. Worse yet she has been presented as extremely boring which is not like the character whatsoever. The canon point you pulled her from may have something to do with this but as a player you should be taking steps to correct it and pull her out of that rut by forging new CR or resolving personal conflict that is causing her to come off so flat around here. I see by your above response that you plan to canon review and I think this is a wise decision. Anya is a hard character to nail down.

Your Spike is another story. Someone has already brought up the issue of his accent so I won't bother on that front. I understand that this character is obsessive about his love interests but he has become such a creeper here that I am put off by him altogether. I think that Buffy's mun is at fault here somewhat for never really interacting with her cast and dropping threads so that nothing ever gets resolved. She has done this with more than just Spike and she should be held accountable in that respect. At the same time there comes a point where you just need to drop that dynamic especially now that Spike has a soul and that the current incarnation of Buffy is so much younger and a different person entirely to the Buffy that Spike knows from later in canon. Regardless of the fact that Buffy's mun has proven to be so unreliable I don't see him obsessing about her as they both are now. It feels like you are playing a shell of what Spike should be or what Spike was rather than molding him to fit and adapt to the atmosphere of the game. On a related not I have noticed that if Spike isn't getting his Buffy fix in other games you will often drop him so I also have to wonder if you simply play him for your favorite ship.

After sorting through this some more with some of my canonmates, I think I've figured out the problem with Sam and am going to work on this. I am in the process of figuring out a way to fix this so that it doesn't seem completely out of the blue. I was a little defensive before, and I'm sorry for that.

i've always been a fan of your yukiko even before playing with her and hope to tag her sometime in the future. ;w; fwiw, at a bird's eye view she appears to have retained her core personality while still moving forward as a character. /UNHELPFUL COMMENT

i think your spike's interactions with harmony are extremely out of character for him. yes, he can be and is often a prick to her in earlier seasons when he has no soul, but their dynamic in season five is a lot different. she's obviously still a ditz but it's very obvious that she is trying and he isn't an outright douchebag to her. there's sort of an understanding there that i feel you are missing the mark on entirely. i realize that your spike is pulled from after the fall, but the harmony in play here is from angel season five if i am remembering correctly. more than that she is genuinely making an effort to be a good person. this is something that angelmun recognized and had angel recognize when he arrived after only his first few interactions with harmony. i don't know if you or harmony's players don't get along or what the issue here is but i felt the need to point out that it reads very wrong to me.

This has to be the most pointless gripe I've ever read in my life. I would much rather get consistent replies by someone who makes an effort to tag a thread at least once a day via email to keep it alive and moving than icon variety. Please disregard this "crit" because I am in love with the way that you consistently tag me and keep things moving. In the same vein, I don't care if you have a paid or plus or basic account. Icons are a luxury not a necessity. As long as you have one to represent your character, you're allowed to play in most games.

Favoring Spike doesn't mean I don't like Anya, but yes, that crit is fair. If I can't get my act together with her soon, I will be dropping her because she's one of my favorites, and she deserves better than a mun who gets lazy with her.

All right, I'm going to address your last point first because that is entirely unfair and just plain untrue. I drop games for a lot of reasons, most recently lack of time since I have just moved to a foreign country for five months and don't have time for the four games I had been in. I'll admit that having Buffy around is a draw for me, whether for ship or fighting purposes, but it's never been the deciding factor. And, though Spike isn't getting his Buffy fix here, I definitely do not have any intention of dropping him.

That being said, I don't think Spike has been as obsessive since he got back his soul. At least, that hasn't been the intent, and I'll watch it in the future to make sure. Yes, I get frustrated about never finishing threads with her, and that... sort of makes it hard to let go in a way? Since I want to know how threads will end and I never do? He isn't trying to pursue her romantically right now, though he'd like to be friends, or at least have her not actively be trying to stake him, if you want insight into where his head is right now. But I will watch for it in the future. I know earlier in the game he was definitely a creeper, though hopefully in an IC way, but that's part of why I canon updated him. If he's still coming off as a creeper, I'm doing something wrong, and I'll try and work on it.

Your dropping Spike when things with Buffy don't work out was just something that I noticed. If you say that isn't the case then I will take your word for it. It's just coincidence. I'm not being sarcastic. I don't want to call you a liar because it was only speculation on my part.

I am glad that you are going to take steps to help with your Anya. I think that she and Spike are two very loud and distinct voices so playing them both in the same game might also have something to do with it. I'll be rooting for her. Anya is one of my favorites.

The creeper stuff has certainly been toned down ever since he got his soul I will give you that. Buffy mun's tendency to drop threads would drive me batty if I were part of your cast. Going through the tags on the main community you can see that just about every scene she has been in with you guys has been dropped. Some of these were important scenes too like her interactions with Angel. I can see how she shoulders a lot of that responsibility but you guys need to hold her accountable. If you haven't talked to her about it do so and if you have and it still isn't getting resolved then report her to a mod. At this point her poor activity and bad habits are making you and your character look bad so it is something I would look into if I were you or even the cast as a whole.

I get along fine with Harmony's player, though I don't know her well. First of all, I have not had many threads with Harmony post-canon update, and I'm a bit fuzzy on which ones were or weren't, so I'm... sort of just guessing from how I would have him act here. In Season 5 Spike still treats Harmony like a moron. The second he's solid he basically seduces her into having sex with him even though he obviously doesn't want to start a relationship with him, even telling her not to talk so that she doesn't spoil the moment. He's a bit nicer to her in the following episode, telling her she matters to the girl who tried to frame her for murder, but besides that he mostly ignores or insults her. And as you mentioned, he's from after the fall, which is also after Harmony betrayed Team Angel despite her efforts to be a good person. It may have fed into Angel's plan, but it was still a betrayal, and still a pretty good reason for Spike to not make particularly nice. Yes, Harmony hasn't done it yet, but she's given him no reason to think that she won't. I'll also pull evidence from Season 8, even though it's after Spike's canon point, where he says she completely ruined Dancing with the Stars for him. So he clearly has not built up any warm fuzzies by then.

I have noticed a trend of people being, well, a lot nicer to Harmony than I've noticed anyone (besides maybe Lorne) being in canon. So maybe Spike just seems particularly hard in comparison? I don't know.

Wow. What a slap to the face of your entire cast. I have been lurking and watching these threads because I agree with just about everything that has been brought up, and I have to address the way that you appear to be passing the buck so to speak on just about all of the crit you've recieved up until now. Stop doing it. Take everything that has been said and change it, because your characters have major flaws that need fixing and it looks like everyone has been leaving you honest crit to try and help you overcome them. Don't blame anyone else, at the end of the day you write these characters. If I was part of the Buffy/Angel cast right now, I'd be smearing you on anon comm for trying to use us as a shield for your poor character choices. It's making you look bad so knock it off.
