It's time for another round of Game Discussion, also known as

HOW'S THE GAME?

Here we come together to discuss the game, its plots, the settings, and just about anything we can think of that we'd like to talk about, expand upon, improve, change, etc.


This is not an HMD for players and their characters; this should be about the game's function as a whole and not the people in it. If there is something you feel is absolutely necessary to address that involves a specific person, please IM a mod first to discuss it. We can be reached at valawie (Valerie), fan of todd (TF), or never die ftw (Ashley).

Anonymous will be left off for this round. Sock journals are allowed, but you will have to request comm access to post with them.

Re: Keeping people up to date with prisoners!

I'm wondering if there's anything we can do about keeping the general playerbase up to speed about who's in prison or not-- even if it something like adding in the sidebar something like, CURRENTLY IMPRISONED: name, name, name, with maybe a link to their last known activity or something?

That, or maybe someone who'd like to designate a weekly post in paradisawatch about what all has happened insofar-- updates, points of interest, things for the policing to pick up on/discern, etc.

I would love any input you have in regards to that!

A thousand times yes to a post somewhere that keeps them up to date. Players can fill it out themselves and someone can maintain the list. Maybe with a link to their wiki/contact that way if someone wants CR despite that character being locked up, they can find a way or SOMETHING.

paradisawatch would be added to the sidebar then, yes? :D But overall, your proposal is the most logical.

Oh, awesome! I am not sure as to who would like to keep up with that, but if no one would like to step up, I'm sure I can touch base with the active peacekeepers and summarize things for everyone... hm hm hm.

Oh man, I think PW should be there without saying, so I will get on that now!

But what would you think about adding like say, under the Weather, a list of who is imprisoned as well as the PW link? That way, people can always have that constant reminder, or-- hmm, would that be too redundant?

I feel like having prisoners listed on the sidebar would be a little too much -- if you start listing characters over there, it could get a little out of hand. (why not list people living in the town, people who are that the Outpost, people on losses, etc.) Maybe a link instead, to an entry with current prisoners listed?

Watch on the sidebar is good - and I was going to try and make an up-to-date list of prisoners part of the PP Wiki page ... which I'm slowly and steadily chipping away at. Like, for the month, people can submit anything that police and villain types would be on and we can add it to a little timeline? :O

At another game I'm in, prisoners and crimes are kept up to date by a player I believe. But they also have a pretty large law enforcement cast to keep it up to date. We already have something that looks like this -- which Dolly started? I don't know what happened to it. This is the police roster + most wanted criminals.

I'm sorry I wasn't clear, I just mean a separate page entirely that gets linked to the game directory somewhere!

Personally, I'd love it if someone stepped forward with a sort of news bulletin type thing where they reported on current issues, etc. I'm pretty sure this was proposed before, and it always receives support, but we just need someone dedicated to gathering all this info on a consistent basis.

Even if it's like what you read in the newspapers from police blotters:

"Nepeta alerted residents over the journal that she saw smoke in the sky. Peace Patrol responded and reported that it was just clouds."

Of course Ang has Mark report on stuff once a week, but as far as I know she does all the data collecting herself? So maybe there could be a weekly (or bi-monthly? monthly?? or maybe a dedicated post linked on the sidebar?) OOC post where people can submit castle goingson.

I have seen other games do this (a_facility comes to mind), and once submissions are in they're reposted. I've seen them posted both ICly and OOCly; I'm trying to think up a way for them to be posted ICly barring the castle itself being like HEY HERE'S THE SCOOP GUYS or a character taking it upon themselves to do it.

The sad thing is, we've had a few newspaper pitched in the handful of years I've been here in the game and none of them have really panned out... :C

Same for OOC attempts at gathering info and posting it. They almost never pan out.

To be completely honest, I think the only way to ensure that something like this happens consistently (whether it be just an OOC post with links/summaries to everything or a legitimate IC newspaper) is to get a helper/mod (or two, or three, or whatever) to do it as a part of their staff duties. :( Otherwise, players will get tired of it, have RL problems, etc etc and it will die again.

I think this would be good because it means that the staff would always be up to date with current issues and not have people be all like, WELL THIS WENT ON and have everyone not know anything about it. Plus, it prevents things from slipping under the radar, so to speak!

I actually wouldn't mind coming up with a page similar to the one that Nita linked to. It would serve as a sticky post for people to post any crime or activity that the game should be aware about, and we can have a table on it that lists the current prisoners as well.

I actually quite like this post. It could be posted in PW and whoever has a hero that wants something to do could track it as comments are posted!

There's just the issue of getting people to use it, though!

I still think we should do something like this, too. Relying on helpers/mods to sort events out is all well and good, but I don't think everyone on the mod team could possibly know all the little events going on that people might like mentioned!

Yeah, you'd definitely still have to get someone to submit things if it's not something big or noticeable or whatever. But it takes significantly less effort on a player's part to submit one event rather than compile everything into a post, so I'm hoping that it'll work better ;;

I like this idea a lot, and I think it could be really helpful if we could just.... get it to stick. Because if I'm reading this correctly, we've done this before, several times, in a lot of different forms. We would need to make sure it was visible, that people could submit things quickly (so as not to be like "oh, it'll take me ages to write up that comment, I'll do it later" for eternity, which I know is something I would do), and that it could segue easily into IC, if necessary. Would we want to use this post for plotting (which could get messy)? Or would it just be something to keep muns aware (which could get unwieldy, since different muns have different characters with different priorities, and we all don't need to stay up-to-date on EVERYTHING)?

Also, would this theoretically be like the villain activity (http://paradisawatch.livejournal.com/868.html#comments) that Dolly had going a while back? Or more like Castle Connections (http://paradisaooc.livejournal.com/2594357.html#cutid1), which was a little less crime-focused and more about current events? Because I personally liked CC a lot, but I'm not sure if it petered out because of a lack of interest or if it became too much for one person to handle or what.

Yep exactly! And that way if people feel they're behind for whatever reason, be it school or RL or vacation or whatever, it would be easy to just take a look at this post and be like oh hey, so this is what went on while I was gone!
