[Poll #1749623][Poll #1749624]

Test Drive Comm

We will not be making an official test drive community. Memes in YYPL and such are fine, of course. ♥

World Plot

Most information regarding this already has its own poll post here, but we would just like to state again that it is never, ever, ever, EVER a problem for you to contact us and ask if your character can get involved in World Plot in some way, whether it's starting an expedition to a new landmark or re-visiting an old one. Whatever it is you want to do, just contact us, and we will try our best to work something out! The world of Paradisa is meant to be explored, and we absolutely don't want to make people limited ICly if their characters would go to explore/look around/etc.

Just as a reminder: [livejournal.com profile] paradisabeyond is now an official part of Paradisa, and it's a good idea to watch it with at least one of your character journals for further World Beyond posts and plots.

I like a lot of these changes, not sure I'm on board with the one week KO for a canon bump...but eh since I only canon bump every year or so- not that big a thing to me.

One thing that does trouble me though is:

We will not be switching to app cycles. However, we will ask that you wait one month after dropping a character to apply for a new one.

Doesn't that mean it will...really suck for those people who only have one character if they wanted to change characters? That's like asking them to leave the game for a month.

The reverse of that would be to app your character and then just wait until they are approved to drop the one you have. It doesn't seem to really be a deterrent in my opinion.

SORRY FOR ALL THE EDITS

[identity profile] save-the-souls.livejournal.com 2011-06-06 09:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah but what if you aren't sure about the character or want to wait a week to app? It also promotes character squatting because people will hang onto a character they want to drop because they don't want to get kicked from the game for a full month as they work on an app or decide what character to play. Which people learn that loop hole? It won't curb the thing that mods are trying to stop at all.

I don't know, I just don't like the feeling of it. Not only for that problem, but to me it seems like it sort of...punishes muns who drop a character even if they aren't doing the rapid turn over? I mean I just dropped a character I was playing for nearly six months, my other two characters have both been here for over a year. I'm practically the poster child for long term characters. I was definitely thinking of bringing in another third character once I picked who- but now I can't until July when truth be told I haven't been on the AC check for a year now.

Maybe a better system would be to put the month time restraint on a person each time they app? Heck, even make a newbie rule where the first 2-3 characters are free. It'd curb the same thing this rule tries to curb and without kicking people from the game or punishing muns who haven't done anything.

I agree that it's poorly worded, so maybe it can get looked into where it's only after you hit X number of characters? Or it can be over-ruled if you talk to a mod?

[identity profile] ares.livejournal.com 2011-06-06 09:43 pm (UTC)(link)
No matter what they implement, someone is going to disagree. I feel like we discussed this on the How's The Game? post and they made a decision based on that. We should just wait and see how it goes, and maybe bring something up on the next How's The Game? post if it doesn't appear to be working. Like Christina said, simply applying for a character and waiting for an approval before dropping is an easy way to circumvent this if you are planning to drop a character anyway, such as what happened with Reno. Not having another character the instant after you drop one won't kill you, and besides it looks bad when people drop a character to app another no matter how long-term they are.

[identity profile] save-the-souls.livejournal.com 2011-06-06 09:57 pm (UTC)(link)
I did contribute to the discussion on How's my Game and it said the same thing, but because it was a bit late it pretty much got ignored by the other muns.

It also looks bad telling people to leave a welcoming game because they didn't follow a weird loop hole that Christina pointed out - worse even! I don't need a character instantly, I was going to wait a couple weeks actually to seen if I even wanted someone. I don't appreciate you making it sound like I'm someone throwing a fit when I am pointing out a serious flaw in this new rule that excludes people (not to mention with Christina's loophole- the rule is ineffective because serial appers can still app as long as they don't drop a character during their spree). Last I checked I'm allowed to voice my opinion when it comes to game concerns. Whether or not they change the rule is up to them, but polite dissent is not wank.

[identity profile] ares.livejournal.com 2011-06-06 10:02 pm (UTC)(link)
I never said you were throwing a fit, and I only used the example of Reno because it's something you brought up, yourself. I don't mean you as in YOU. I am talking in general. I would think the mods read over each comment in that discussion, discussed among themselves, and decided off of that. I'm not saying you are wrong, but that it's already a decision that they've made and we should wait and see if it works out before we start saying it won't work or it's a bad idea. No one agreed on everything except for the abilities section in the application. We will have another chance to discuss all of this stuff, so let's just defer to their decision in the meantime. That's all I'm saying.

The thing about people dropping to pick up another character is my own opinion, and something that I've noticed a lot here (hell, I used to do it all the time). I wasn't trying to single you out, I just know I get frustrated when someone drops and then immediately reserves someone else no matter what their reason--especially if I had a lot of CR with them--especially if they have been around for a long time. Obviously not everyone is going to agree with me, but again no one is going to be happy with everything.

[identity profile] dupable.livejournal.com 2011-06-06 10:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Slightly off/on topic, since I'm not debating the rules the mods have enacted here, but while I'm guessing the mods do probably try to read everything people post in the HTG post, it's pretty easy to miss a thing or two in a sea of replies, and if there is a loophole in a rule, or something a player views as a flaw I think it'd okay to point out the rule might be problematic. If nothing else it does give the mods something specific to look at for in the future to help the decide if it's one that will or won't work in the long run.

I don't know if a full blown discussion and debate about changing game rules is what they're looking for with this post, sure, but they left comments open so I imagine they are probably open to questions about the new rules put into place, or even some unfavorable opinions of what they've decided. I could be wrong about that though.

[identity profile] save-the-souls.livejournal.com 2011-06-06 10:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Well I'm not sure I'll ever agree to this rule, but fair enough. Let's try it out and see how it goes.

[identity profile] save-the-souls.livejournal.com 2011-06-06 10:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah I know that. Just because I disagree with a rule doesn't mean I plan to badmouth/forsake the game or anything guys, no worries. ♥ I'm not looking to cause wank, just voicing opinion.

Hi it's nita in the car atm

While it certainly is a long period to make someone wait to app another (Especially if they only have one character), para's problem has always been change didn't happen often and when it did, if a few of people were vocal enough then change was stopped and we were back at square one

No two people will ever agree on everything and not in a large game like this. I think we should let this new rule run its course and if it proves to not be helpful or there are many complaints, Isuppose we can drop it after.

[identity profile] decibel-chamber.livejournal.com 2011-06-06 10:15 pm (UTC)(link)
As far as canon bumps go, I like what I did with Jono, and would submit that for consideration. The new memories are there after getting knocked out for a time, and one's Para memories would be locked away, released by contact with the people and places that the canon bumped character had contact with.

Everything else seems cool to me :-D

[identity profile] hitokiridirk.livejournal.com 2011-06-06 10:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Also? Where's the new app? I'd like to include the powers section in my Charles Xavier app, since his powers are what they are, you know?

[identity profile] justcharles.livejournal.com 2011-06-06 11:02 pm (UTC)(link)
S'all good, I just wanted to make sure my bases were covered, as I finally saw First Class yesterday, and wanted to get cracking on my app ~<3

Thoughts on the canon bump methods:

I love having the idea of multiple methods, just to shake things up. And one thing I really like about the item collecting idea is the ability of characters to chose whether or not they complete a memory- a sort of "Do I really want to know?" thing. Also GOTTA CATCH 'EM ALL! Sorry, couldn't help myself.

I do think that it is going to seriously suck for the first few characters who use the new methods, though. I feel like getting KOed has become so commonplace that people just accept that any trip home was real, but with dreams or items, I think a lot of people would be likely to think that the castle was just screwing with them- unless they had a canon-mate who was already past that point. Or until it becomes a common way of updating.

I don't think that's a good thing or a bad thing, necessarily, as it could actually be really fun to play around with. I'm just kind of thinking aloud.

I'm happy to see some things changing so that the game is progressing, but not everything too drastically so there's no shell shock.

[identity profile] excalibured.livejournal.com 2011-06-07 12:53 am (UTC)(link)
I'm fine with everything else, but there is something that concerns me. Up here you say that two posts a month are the only thing you're going to keep track of. But on the how's my game, it was stated that activity was also going to be monitored with the penalty of apps being denied for inactivity, and official warnings issued for the same, if the following requirements weren't met:

- Rushing to make AC [which I assume to mean posting too close to the end of the month]
- Frequent/constant dropped threads
- Using only private/filtered posts

So now I'm rather confused. What sort of activity are we being marked by? Because if the latter is still included, then the two posts a month AREN'T the only thing you're officially tracking and we will be punished for failing to meet the others, unaware that we had to.

[identity profile] orz-woeisme.livejournal.com 2011-06-07 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
How and when we gauge activity is kind of split up like this:

Activity check:

  • 2 posts per month
  • If less than 2 posts, extra threads required to pass (quality, not quantity)

    Apps:

  • Character recently dropped?
  • Character recently apped (i.e. apping 2 at the same time/apping 3+ mo or something)
    ↓ Character activity
→ Constantly posting at the end of the month to pass AC?
      → Constantly dropping threads?
→ Constantly passing AC with private/constantly filtered posts

    # of posts/threads only matter for monthly AC check and all other things (dropping threads, using private entries to pass AC, posting at the end of the month to pass AC), only matter when applying for a new character. :) Does that help?

Yes, muchly, thank you! The hows my game made it sounded like they were mushed into one thing, so this post seemed a little strange.

    [identity profile] excalibured.livejournal.com 2011-06-07 01:26 am (UTC)(link)
I know. My concern was simply that they appeared to be contradicting each other. As this post says 2 posts was the ONLY thing you were tracking for activity. But as I told Dolly, it was simply a misunderstanding with how the wording in HTG appeared. But thank you!

Just wondering but are apps that were submitted before the abilities section was added but haven't been approved yet going to have to add this to their already pending applications or something? I have a friend who submitted her app a few days ago so I thought I'd ask on her behalf.
foolreversed: (Haha go fuck yourself! ^_^)

Okie dokie, good to know. Thank you! I'm sure she wouldn't have minded adding in the section but it's still nice to know it won't keep her app from being accepted or anything.

It might be sorta weird. Smack me around if this sounds stupid, but it crossed my mind and I thought I an event around the Tanabata Festival might be kind of fun to explore, especially given the nature of "wishing" in Paradisa. Altair and Vega could be NPCs, and maybe the town could be transformed into a celestial village for a while. ((Okami-ish? I guess?))

We've done lots of European inspired plots, it'd be cool to have the castle reflect other cultures and myths and legends. Like Slenderman without as much kid trauma, ROFL. Mount Olympus, Duat of Egyptian mythology, or get some Valhalla up in here.

I dunno... they sounded like fun ideas at the time sklfsdklfmdsklf

We actually had Tanabata in Paradisa once. I... don't remember what year we had it, but I know we had it.

I agree! I'd love to see more than just American or Japanese cultures represented in-game. That was something I could never really wrap my head around (for any game, not just this one). Yes, a good number of us are from the United States, but a lot of us aren't and it just seems strange that certain holidays are represented by the castle while others aren't--especially when there are probably more Japanese characters in game than anything (I think).

I'd be all over Mount Olympus, but I'm kind of biased there haha. Any of those suggestions seem neat though. :3

I think it's because it's "easier" in our perspectives to throw events we're familiar with without fear of say, doing a Holi event that people would be afraid of screwing up because of cultural differences. Didn't Jenn once make a post asking about different cultural myths people knew? Am I imagining this... seriously...

But the main point of my comment is omgyesplease to something new. Tanabata, Holi, etc. :)

I'd also love to see Olympus or Valhalla (screams silently... +_+). Valhalla could work well with our warrior types.
