HOW'S MY DRIVING?

HOW'S MY DRIVING?

Comment with the names of the characters you play for feedback on your roleplaying. Other players will then reply to your comment telling you what they honestly think in a constructive manner. While both praise and critique is welcome, we'd like to remind you that this is a valuable tool for many of our members. We'd like to request that all comments remain constructive.

While the staff highly encourages everyone to participate, only comment if you are capable of giving and taking potentially harsh concrit in a mature, level-headed manner. Assume good faith at all times. Crit is meant to be resolved, not "won". Give mutual respect for each other's work and ideas. Aggressiveness creates unproductive stress and conflict. If you are emotionally compromised, you are not fit to captain the Starship Enterprise need to step back, take a break, and then return when you're ready.

Anonymous commenting is ENABLED. Anonymity doesn't detract from the validity of concrit. An anonymous compliment is a compliment; an anonymous crit is still a crit. However, if you are going to post anonymously, consider it your obligation to follow up –– it is frustrating for muns to never get a reply back, and HMD should be first and foremost an ongoing discussion.

We have provided a form to post with, if you would like to use it. Mentioning things like canon points, permanent losses and recent major events in their lives in Paradisa may help give people a better idea of the character's mindset and current actions.

Alternatively, you may choose to post a link to your private HMD thread on the character's journal and take comments there instead. The first thread of this post will be reserved for those people, and we will freeze those comments. People will be expected to follow the link to the character's individual HMD to give crit there.

Oh also I dropped a note about this to Arden on anontalk but I wanted to tell you here.

I think you do a lot of comics incorporation into Clark and how he would react to certain things and I think it's fantastic. It's obvious that you know your source material in and out and while maybe you don't know it well enough to play comics Clark, or maybe you just prefer Smallville Clark, idk, I love that you use it to flesh it out like that and give him a wider basis. It just makes Clark a much more solid character to have that kind of source knowledge backing him and it's why I will never be able to accept another Clark into my life.

Constructively positive? Right? This counts?

Thank youuuuu! I like to know when working with the comics has or hasn't worked –– I try to keep it subtle enough and work it in where it makes sense, based on who is influencing him and who he has been interacting with, as well as losses like the For The Man Who Has Everything one. I find it also helps smooth over the bumps in Smallville's characterization, where he can sometimes swing between being one thing or another.

And ahaha, Smallville's a lot more accessible than the comics. Not that I don't know Supes' history pretty well from the comics (or that you really NEED to, with the retcons) but if I ever write comics Superman, I'd hope it's because I've gotten a job with DC Comics ;)

Yesss that's exactly how it comes off, too. You only do it where it's necessary and it makes him a very complete character and you still keep him true to the Smallville Clark where he's a little uncertain of his heroism but has gotten stronger in it through Paradisa and --

Basically yeah the comic undertones come through in places where they work really well and I love that you do it because it always makes the live action versions more beautiful when people do that. ♥

I feel it has... a broader depth of character or something? Smallville's had a fuckton of canon but I don't feel it focuses on the characters quite enough for my liking, what with all the guests appearances and million subplots and stuff. It's a lot to cram in a 44-minute episode. Hell, we're coming up to the last five episodes and they're STILL introducing new characters. But for other DC or Marvel canons where there are decades of extra stuff to peruse, it can really do wonders to flesh out a character. It also helps for how they'd react to AU characters.

It's pretty cool to watch Smallville episodes now and see Clark interacting with characters he met in Paradisa years ago, and then have my Clark's reaction to them confirmed IC, largely because I based it on the comics. It harmonizes the different universes well.
