HOW'S MY DRIVING?

Comment with the names of the characters you play for feedback on your roleplaying. Other players will then reply to your comment telling you what they honestly think in a constructive manner. While the staff highly encourages everyone to participate, only comment if you are capable of giving and taking potentially harsh concrit in a mature, level-headed manner. Assume good faith at all times. Crit is meant to be resolved, not "won". Give mutual respect for each other's work and ideas. Aggressiveness creates unproductive stress and conflict. If you are emotionally compromised, you ~~are not fit to captain the Starship Enterprise~~ need to step back, take a break, and then return when you're ready.

Anonymous commenting is ENABLED. Anonymity doesn't detract from the validity of concrit. An anonymous compliment is a compliment; an anonymous crit is still a crit. However, if you are going to post anonymously, consider it your obligation to follow up –– it is frustrating for muns to never get a reply back, and HMD should be first and foremost an ongoing discussion.

We have provided a form to post with, if you would like to use it. Mentioning things like canon points, permanent losses and recent major events in their lives in Paradisa may help give people a better idea of the character's mindset and current actions.

Alternatively, you may choose to post a link to your private HMD thread on the character's journal and take comments there instead. The first thread of this post will be reserved for those people, and we will freeze those comments. People will be expected to follow the link to the character's individual HMD to give crit there.

so uhh.... hi.

i've gotten crit about needing to get out there and tag more, so i'm trying to work on that with certain characters. i've also gotten crit about Julian getting more consequences for his actions, so i've been working on that with my CR too. but is there anything you want me specifically to work on? like, getting better at back-tagging, not apping and dropping, etc. character-wise especially?

i want to improve.... /wheezes

PLEASE stop using Adam Lambert and Ellen Page as PBs. I can't take Julian seriously anymore, and Ellen Page looks nothing like Jess. They both have plenty of source material to icon that you don't need these PBs that look nothing like your characters.

in all honestly, i saw the complaints about using PBs in the anon thread so i've been backing off on using them in game. however, there are times when i don't have much of a choice to use them as my characters lack in certain expressions (ie. Julian actually smiling or Jessica looking more depressed). they're also partly for another game which doesn't mind using PBs for comic characters in the end anyways.

i'm sorry that you can't take Julian seriously anymore. choosing PBs is personal preference on whether the character looks like the person or not, so while you may not think think that they look like the character, other people do.

however, if this really is an issue, i'll stop using them in this game all together. my apologies, anon, and i hope that maybe you'll feel better about my characters after this.

I don't mind the use of PBs at all. The issue was that the ones you chose look nothing like your characters. That was my critique. As far as I can tell, neither character is lacking in facial expressions if you can make well over a hundred icons for them. Maybe consider other PBs that look more like your characters.

Have any suggestions for them on what they should look for? Maybe some names that is a closer match?

but the fact of the matter is, PBs are still personal preference in the end. Lambert was honestly a joke that went awry and that i actually considered changing (because who wants him as a PB), but didn't bother because it took too much work to find another, and Ellen Page was spontaneous and something fandom suggested.

while you may not think that they look like the characters, again, some other people do. but i'm willing to change them if you have better suggestions or stop using them completely if they bother you that much (minding PBs or not).

different anon. i wasn't going to say anything at first because i didn't want to +1 you to death but you are taking this crit like a child. your receptiveness to crit aside, i'll keep *my* crit in line with what's been posted here and not elsewhere.

i have to agree with the original anon regarding your use of pbs. i don't think they are a good representation of either character. i actively avoid your characters because of them, so it is a much bigger deal than you may think. using them is your personal choice, but you need to realize that not everyone enjoys them. by not using them the problem is solved, otherwise it's just a problem that you are going to have realize exists by choosing to do so.

as far as your receptiveness to crit, if you can't handle the fact that someone is going to have critique that you might not like or agree with then i suggest simply abstaining from posting on here in the future.

Take a step back. Take a break. Then re-read things carefully with another perspective. I don't see the person as acting like a child. They said sorry, and they are willing to take suggestions.

i've already agreed to not use them all together if it bothers that many people. i wasn't aware that it was this much a problem, but again, i'll stop using them all together and i'm sorry that my PB choice wasn't to your liking.

and i'm fully aware of how much of a child that i've been acting like, and i fully apologize for it and how much of an ass i've been making of myself. i completely regret it and in the future i will abstain from posting to HMD until i know i can handle it.

to be fair only like two of Julian's icons are pb'd? Jess has a few more, but the majority is still comics art. I pay no attention to either of these characters so I had no idea, and I was expecting to see like half of their icons pb'd based on reactions here. Is just two of them that big a deal, even if you disagree with the actor?

Anon I have no idea what you're talking about. I just looked at those PBs+characters to see...and Ellen might not be the best Jess PB (though I can see certain icons where they have the same baby face), but Adam is perfectly fine as a representation of Julian. Apparently you have a problem with Adam Lambert if you can't take someone seriously that uses him as a PB, and that sucks for you, but he does not 'look nothing like' Julian.

Now I've never seen either of these characters in their canon source, I admit, but just comparing their PB icons with their comic icons, I see no problem identifying them as that character's live action counter part.

I’m finding Julian isn’t very OOC... but his anger and outbursts are excessive and sometimes over the top. I know this comment isn’t going to be very helpful but I think you need to remember that while Julian does have a bad temper and attitude, he would never hurt or try to hurt Cessily, who is his closest friend. There was a thread he left the castle and he came close to hurting her. That was a strange instant and no matter how blinded by rage he can be, he’s never tried to hurt her especially with his own powers in canon.

But I am curious about why it didn’t take Julian some time to swallow his pride when he asked Elixir to bring back his hands. It was jarring to say the least and a bit disappointing to watch him discard the boy right after, with no afterthought on the situation.
Please don’t wave this off as an attack. I know you are anxious about crit but I’m honestly leaving this because I KNOW you are capable of taking it and making good use of it as you’ve done in the past.

thank you very much for your critique and i know i've been shoving his anger a little too much to the front nowadays and it's been something i've been working on.

in all honesty, i do feel the same way. i do think that he's been a bit too angry and a bit too tantrum-y and i've been trying to reel that back to something more reasonable. but the situation with Cessily was honestly bad phrasing on my part. i use "blast" as a general term for use of his TK, and what was meant to happen was just for him to push her away so that he could walk off. he, in no way, had any intent to hurt her and he never would, no matter how angry he was. that was poor word choice on my part.

Julian didn't ask Josh to heal his hands back though. Josh asked Julian to check to see if his healing still worked, and well, Julian wasn't going to pass up that opportunity. in almost all circumstances though, Julian wouldn't ask for Josh's help. however, i do agree that their relationship has been a bit more rocky as of recently, especially since the two have gone through so much together and while i want to show that Julian does kind of care for Josh, he's still ultimately, very threatened by him.

thank you for bringing all of this to my attention though, and i fully plan on settling Julian back a bit more. i've been wanting to find a way to smooth him out emotionally and work on his relationship with Josh a bit more, so thank you for finalizing my concerns.

Thank you for replying in a level-headed manner. I only want to help! Julian is such a difficult character to the point even the Marvel writers have no idea how to write his personality, going from one extreme to the other. Honestly? Kudos to you for taking such a character on and trying to put his more humane side out up front.

I see your point about the Cessily thing. I associated the word with an attack so I'm sorry for jumping to conclusions about that thread. It makes sense to me now.

I also agree with Julian feeling threatened by Josh. I see Julian as threatened by a lot of people and we know how much he hates to be vulnerable. I was mainly concerned his anger would boil over and he would become a more one-dimensional character. Because he's often angry about something in Paradisa. Perhaps you can try throwing him at more calmer/nicer characters and see if they have that affect on him?

I think the concern I have most worth mentioning has nothing to do with an individual character you play--I do agree with some anons about Julian's agressiveness sometimes, but really I have no business commenting on it as a serious concern since I am unfamiliar with his canon. And I actually really like Julian!

What I do worry over sometimes is that you prioritize tagging people from your characters' canon over anyone else. And I can definitely understand this--I have done it too on occasion. Everyone probably has at one point whether they mean to or not, so it isn't just you--but it is a trend I've noticed lately with your DC/Marvel characters and what has made me hesitant to tag you in the last few weeks.

Intentional or not it sometimes feels as though you would rather spend time exploring CR that is strictly of the shared canon variety. Most of his posts have been filtered to them, or deal only with them and in a way it feels like anyone else wanting CR with you should just get a DC/Marvel character if they want anything lasting rather than try with someone from another canon--this isn't to say it's just you who gives this impression. I just want to bring it to your attention!

I adore you no less, like you no less, want CR with you no less--I just wanted to make you aware of this fact, and hope that you can take this to heart♥ see aren't I clever, I put a heart after "heart"

yeah, i think Julian's been way too aggressive lately and i've been trying to figure out what to do with that. so aha, thanks.

and yeah, i agree with you there too. it's a bad habit that i've gotten myself into where i'll prioritize some tags over others, especially from canon. i don't really have an excuse for it except for my own selfishness and i have utmost plans to do something about it.

Julian, in particular, i need to get out there more, as most of his posts are filtered or deal with his canonmates, and i really don't want to come off that way -- as someone who will only give out CR if you're from their canon.

I'm really glad I decided to man up and try Logan here, because it's given me the chance to have more CR with you, and I pretty much adore everything you do. You have a genuinely unique style, that manages to inject your own sense of humor and personality into RP without ever disrupting the flow and ICness of your character personalities, and those are the people I love RPing with the most. I really really love your Batgirl, so so much, and I love how you stepped up and just fucking owned that Slenderman plot with her. She was literally everywhere. The mind boggled. That kind of commitment is great to see.

I also think you do a commendable job of balancing activity with so many characters. I never feel like 'where's so and so' - they all pop up enough to feel like constants in the community.

Basically, I look forward to every tag I get from you, and I'm really glad I've had the chance to get to know you OOC. You're so great to plot with, too, and I'm really looking forward to this Logan and Julian stuff ;___; ~~Now you will never get rid of me~~.

In an attempt at crit, I really really liked Eris' weird.... sphinx post awhile ago and I feel like stuff like that might draw more interest than a string of posts about her popping up. I'll admit I'm always afraid to tag those posts because they're so open. Sometimes the more specific stuff makes me feel more comfortable, I guess, but I do like... the unpredictability of it, since it's Eris.

hhrmm, i think you're right! honestly, when i was trying to write a post for her, i wasn't quite sure what to do because Eris isn't the kind of person who lets people walk in on her unless she wants them too. i want to have more things like the sphinx happen, but i've been running short on ideas so i plan to canon review and then go back and research some more to come up with some things to do posts about. however, i will try to cut back on her creeper posts because i do think that they're a bit excessive.

Batgirl, OMG, BATGIRL. I love her so much - you should have seen Laurel and I while we were tagging the Slenderman plot. We kept turning to each other and going "DAMN, whoever plays Batgirl is RIGHT on top of things, we need to step it up here".

Going by that alone, I should've known it was you, since I looooove the CR Barney has with Jess.
