PARANATURAL Plot Information & Signups

Dates

August 20th - 31st

Overview

Evil - or more of it, to be precise, is coming to Paradisa, in the form of a three pronged attack. In the world where these creatures are from, not many people know or believe that they exist, but they have all been known to wreak havoc, claiming many lives. The foes are very real - all of them have been seized unexpectedly, suddenly finding themselves being used as pawns to create chaos and discord by something much older and sinister than even the worst of them - Paradisa itself, as it twists and provokes their malevolent natures to its own end.

Lives will be systematically taken, but for the sake of playing with its food, the castle will be changing the rules this time around. Instead of being sent away, the souls of the deceased will remain in the castle, disembodied for at least one full day before being returned. This will of course come with a steep price that will debilitate them significantly, be it physically or emotionally, for no less than one week. After a slight learning curve, the disembodied spirits can still interact with those around them. Whether they choose to do so to resolve unfinished business or to exact revenge is up to their own free will. Vengeful spirits are more powerful, but a word of caution: Once a soul taps into the rage of vengeance, it's hard to come back and even harder to control.

In the world where these monsters come from, there are certain individuals who hunt and kill the things that go bump in the night. Though they are most often solitary people that live on the fringes of society, these hunters pass on the lore of how to track and eradicate monsters. They stockpile weapons for use against common threats and some even go traveling around looking for trouble. Paradisa has been home to a few of them from time to time, but unfortunately, none are current residents - though you might say they have friends - of sorts - currently shacking up within the castle walls. It's always hard to tell whether or not either of them will ever actually be of any help, though.

Plot Signups

If you would like to kill or maim your character, or offer them up to have their fate hanging in the balance dependent on the actions of their fellow residents, here's what the plot calls for:

[A]
Six (6) charterers to be killed over the course of 9 days by the biggest of the big bads , a primitive evil that Paradisa itself controls directly...somehow...
[B]
Around ten or so idiots brave heroes to go out and search the woods for whatever did it

[C]
Three (3) of said idiots brave heroes to be captured, One (1) of which will be definitely be eaten alive slowly and
[D]
Two (2) of which may or may not suffer the same fate -- Note: If you want to be part of this aspect of the plot, you have to sign up for the lynch mob search party

[E]
Two (2) characters who suffer from massive amounts of guilt over past misdeeds (in their world and/or Paradisa) to be killed horrifically for their sins and
[F]
Two (2) more to suffer the same hallucinations (or are they?), paranoia, and guilt and possibly die, if no one stops her

[G]
Some Big Damn Heroes to save the day! The solution is obvious, right? Unlimited - and anyone can jump into what will be an open post on Day 10 (Friday 8/29 - but feel free to use this post for plotting shenanigans and forming groups of do-gooders! Who are totally going to help! Lots!
[H]
Late in the plot, there will be a knock-down-drag-out free-for-all fight, during which anyone can be killed or maimed. This will be another open post with NPC action. Death signups for this must still be mod-approved. Signups for maimings (no form necessary, just comment under the appropriate thread) are optional but encouraged. Those who signed up will be given priority for NPC interaction, though I will try to hit everyone on the open post at least briefly.

Signups are first come first serve, pending mod approval on temporary death losses. Feel free to sign up for up to two deaths per character, if you want. If the slots fill up, priority will be given to characters who haven't claimed a spot yet and duplicates may be offered an alternative slot for additional participation. This plot is also flexible numbers wise, so depending on how signups go this week, I can simply adjust the number of deaths up or down to match interest levels.

The cutoff for signups for options A-F will be Monday, August 18th. There is no cutoff for G. The cutoff for death signups for H will be Monday, August 25th.

Forms:

Other Notes:

So how does this whole ghost thing work?

When your character's spirit returns to their body, they will wake up and recall their death, coming back to life, and everything in between. Characters' bodies will be waiting for them in bed in their rooms.

If you want your character to die and don't feel like playing with the ghost angle, it's perfectly fine to put your character in a coma in their room for 24 hours. They will wake up with a clear recollection of just having died and no knowledge that time has passed, having effectively lost a day.

To be clear: If a character is in play less than 24 hours after their death, it must be as a ghost, and in both cases, the onset of their temporary loss will be immediate, within moments of coming back to life.

As a ghost, characters will be able to exercise varying degrees of telekinesis, electromagnetic disturbance, and for the purposes of this plot can manifest anywhere in the castle or on the grounds, but they are bound to that area and may not cross into town.

The presence of a spirit will set off EMF and cannot pass through iron or salt. Theoretically, they can be dispatched to heaven or hell by burning their corresponding remains, but Paradisa isn't having any of that nonsense. Bodies of the deceased will simply not catch fire, no matter how creative or ambitious would-be hunters get. Not that your new ghostly neighbors would ever give you a reason to want to go and do a thing like that...

How are the temporary death losses determined?
If you sign up to die, on the form above you have been asked to provide two alternatives for a temporary loss that will hinder your character significantly - emotionally or physically. One will be chosen for you by the plot runner (Jay) via RNG, so make 'em both good!

These losses will endure it for at least week once they are brought back to life. Beyond the mandatory first 24 hours, you can take as long as you want with them as a ghost - a day, a few days, the duration of the plot. If they have not already, all characters will be brought back to life (a.k.a. their souls will once again inhabit their bodies). As of Midnight September 1st, and their loss will begin immediately. Some death losses will extend past the end date of the plot. This will not be affected by the event ending. Losses will last for at least a week regardless.

Why so vague?
The suspense is half the fun! I'm happy to answer questions about the mechanics of the event that I may have overlooked in my explanation, but my lips are sealed about the details beyond that. As the plot unfolds, there will be plenty of info given both IC and OOC about the creatures the residents are dealing with and how to pick them off. How much information is available ICly is up to the residents. Perhaps they would be wise to do their research.

When your death sign-ups are approved, you will be given additional information privately.

April is going to be killed during the initial bloodbath, and will be a very confused and vengeful ghost, probably for the duration of the plot! At first she'll be focusing her rage on what killed her, but that'll quickly spiral into rage at all supernatural creatures, and then finally rage at everyone. I'm up for having her go after people, so feel free to let me know if you want to do anything in regards to that! When she comes back to life and realizes what she did, she'll be horrified.

Pitch is going to be trying to stay out of the way as much as possible, at least at first (both because he doesn't want to get on the bad side of things more powerful than him, and because he doesn't consider it his business to impede the work of other dark things). Whether or not he gets more involved as time goes on will depend on what happens.

Since I'm running the plot I'm not going to do much besides tagging out at random on mingles and individual posts. She'll join the search party initially out of curiosity, but after that, she's got good reason to lay low, having figured out what's going on. That being said, she's definitely a good source of information, though perhaps not a very willing one. The Death Match as well as her room will be heavily warded with the limited resources granted to her by Paradisa (that might just cause more problems than they're worth, judging by Castiel's last attempt at any kind of spell from their world) and thus at least marginally safer than the rest of the castle.

Fun fact: Demons also get tripped up by salt, so if anyone employs the common strategy of lines of salt to protect against spirits, she'll probably get stuck. This will drive her absolutely nuts, and if anyone tries to do that in her bar, they're getting kicked to the curb.

So depending on when Felix dies he'll spend a short duration as a friendly spirit. While he might be angry, he'll focus more on helping people find the information it takes to defeat these foes. Library ghost Felix may be a thing. Regardless, he will be brought back alive in time for the final battle, and while he'll be extremely shaken up by the effects of that, it won't stop him from participating. He doesn't get to be a magical-badass often enough. Although once the battle ends he'll kind of be a panicky mess.

Gren isn't really a hero type so he'll mostly get caught in the crossfire in the final battle and badly injured. I'd appreciate someone to save him from death here, as his comrade's player will be on hiatus.

Wade also isn't a fighter but she really likes to help. She'll probably be joining in on the big damn hero group.

If Five is still alive by the time of the final battle I can volunteer him to help with Gren if you have no takers. :)

Also, Ghost!Felix and Five should say hi. :)

I'd appreciate it. Gren could use more CR.

Conan will be sneaking along with the group searching the woods (and yes, he'll probably still have stitches from his canon update while he's doing this). He will then be kidnapped by the monster in the woods, and possibly eaten.

I'm hoping someone yells at him for this stunt later. Because this is a really dumb move even for him.

THIS IS DANNY'S PLOT

Finally a plot that calls for something he's actually good at.

So yeah, Danny's going to be joining the group in the woods and probably freaking out more than a little at losing people. He's going to be in the big damn hero group too, to fight the big bad.

And if anyone needs a guy who's kind of an expert at the whole ghost thing? Danny's around. He'll be willing to offer advice to your friendly ghosts on adjusting to the whole intangible thing. Or if your character is taking the vengeance route and needs a time out? He's perfectly willing to shove you in the thermos.

...Though he doesn't know yet that the thermos will only work for an hour on each ghost.

Danny definitely needs to chill with Ghost!Felix

This can definitely happen! I think Danny's going to spend some time trying to meet all the temporary ghosts.

Will will be joining the big damn hero group to fight the big bad. ANd possibly getting maimed a bit. I haven't decided yet.

Main hope for this plot is for Will to actually become an active fighter and show what he can do. For the first time since he arrived in Paradisa.

Any wizard types want to team up with him?

Felix will be around for the final battle so I'd love to have them team up or something

This sounds like a great plan to me! It looks like Will is going to be losing a lot of close CR, so he is definitely going to be motivated this time to actually use his magic.

I'm pretty sure if anyone, Meg might approach Will for help on this. I'll see how the plot goes and how much he realizes on his own but based on what she knows about him and how powerful he actually is it might be a HELP ME OBI WAN kind of situation lmao.

Well... it looks almost everyone Will talks to is either dying or might be dying.

I think he's going to be very motivated to get in there and do something. Although he would definitely appreciate getting some information on what he's going to be fighting.

Duke will be a grumpy, slightly pathetic ghost. He can't see, which will make for some potentially hilarious ghost moments. Half in walls and whatnot... I don't see him being aggressive or terribly vengeful, but bitter and Clumsily sarcastic, yes.

I think I will have him back I time for the boss. He may or may not be helpful, but his idea of dealing with the final battle thing would be 'dump as much offensive magic as possible'

Or, if possible, he could still be a ghost and tries making use of ghost abilities to at least annoy boss. Idk atm

Ahaha I just legitimately lol'd at the idea of a blind ghost.

[personal profile] radiantwingedone 2014-08-16 12:17 am (UTC)(link)
Yes well its not like he's going to stop being blind when he's a ghost!

But also all of the half-through-walls / other objects if that works out how i think it would.

Plotty things for the Doctor of the Fifth Variety

[personal profile] toobravehearted 2014-08-16 03:15 am (UTC)(link)
Five will be joining the search party in the woods, obviously very concerned and intent on clearing up this mess. And then with the abductions happening (Five isn't being abducted) it will not make him a happy camper and possibly bring out the Oncoming Storm in him, especially after what happens with Ten.

And then it's all visions, guilt, paranoia and possibly death. If Five dies at this point, he'll be a ghost for the rest of the plot. Who would like a Hopkirk (Deceased) to their Randall?

Alive or dead, he'll be around for the boss battle. And if he is still alive at this point, he soon won't be because I've asked to kill him off in the Boss Battle otherwise. Five's fate literally is in the games hands, along with his loss depending on RNG. :D

Five buddy................. (Spike has feelings, don't tell anyone.) I don't plan on killing Spike, so I'd completely invite any ghost partner shenanigans.

But also! I need an excuse for him to play with a group in the search party, so I'd be happy to use Five's involvement as an excuse to hover around. If it works out like that! He has a funny thing about keeping track of people he owes favors to, so.
