Bona fide loss time for the Doctor!

I've been threatening to do this for a while and because January seems to be the month for it, I'm hitting Five with a loss thing.

For the next 7-9 days (I've not made my mind up how long completely yet, great start, yay!) Five will be possessed by the Mara from Doctor Who.

Skinny version: evil demon and the embodiment of temptation, all terribad, he'll be mean to chars, try to tempt them into doing bad things and he'll pretty much be a manipulative sod. All while carrying out pranks that vary from plain stupid and mean to the outright dangerous; there is at least one (small) castle surprise in store that I checked was ok to go ahead with first.

I'll look to get a post up tonight and I'll also link in some more information on what to expect from him. Like this link here with all the TL;DR you can shake a stick at. For the curious, Five will be aware of what's going on but he'll be 'locked in' (because where's the fun in him not knowing what's going on?) Technically I'm calling this a loss but there is room for Five to be fixed (haha, oops) if anyone wants to play with that. :)

ETA: Permissions might need to be a thing if you want to fill 'em.

Just let me know. :) If I've tagged you with him anyway and you want no part of it, just ignore the tag. <b>Is Mara!five allowed to try and tempt your char from the straight & narrow?</b> It will use underhand attempts, goading, logic(!) name-calling, taunting, etc, and could be down right nasty/scary. It will use Five's memories of what he knows about chars, so think carefully on this permission. <b>If your char tries to corner/confront Mara!five, he may fight back. In extreme circumstances Mara!five may attempt to give your char a nasty vision, is this allowed?</b> Chars that are known to be strong telepaths may be able to thwart this; chars without a psychic/telepathic defence, not so much (i.e. not at all).

Is Mara!five allowed to try and tempt your char from the straight & narrow? Sure thing, but he's pretty castle!jaded for one and not at all a stranger to that kind of tactic since he's been known to employ it himself. Boy has a temper, though, if you can find the right button to press. Sadly this Five doesn't know what the last one knew about him.
If your char tries to corner/confront Mara!five, he may fight back. In extreme circumstances Mara!five may attempt to give your char a nasty vision, is this allowed? Yes, go for it. He might be able to fight it a little but I realize that magic =/= telepathy but there is some overlap.

Now for the real question, you mention the possibility of fixing him. Is there anything Felix might be able to do to force the Mara out of his head or would like to possibly plot a group attempt to do so? I was thinking that after encountering him, Felix could tap Chimera to try to help out, as residents on dangerous losses are exactly the sort of thing he looks out for.

A group attempt would be very cool, but my time zone is unfriendly (I know, irony of my writing this idiot, yes?) I'm likely to be around and avail to tag late more at the weekend, if that has any bearing. Couple things that may help with what you're thinking, Five's body itself will be susceptible to the affect of spells and things (bearing in mind his physiology isn't human of course). In the course of things, Five does know how to drive out the Mara, so if he can be contacted he can give the answer. The Mara can't bear to see it's own evil reflection (hence Sheena's mun up there about the mirrors) and if it's trapped in such a way, that will drive it out of him into a physical manifestation.

Also, Five does have an ace - the castle gifted him a Little Minds Eye - a crystal that he used before to drive the Mara back to it's banished domain once it became that physical manifestation.

I will have another post to put up for Mara!Five next week as well (probly next Tues/Wed) so I'd like him to still be Mara'd up at that point at least... or I could bring it forward perhaps to have a take down coming off the back of that? Thoughts so far?

Castle library is a possibility (I was under the impression it had books from many worlds) so anything on ancient myths, Gods, or x-ref'd against the real world Mara (it won't be able to help announcing what it is, it's quite proud of the fact).

For in his room, there'd be books in the TARDIS library; however the Mara has a habit in the past of destroying info about itself - it'd be easy to say though, that there's partially destroyed books in his room and it wouldn't be a stretch to say they could be repaired by certain magical individuals, perhaps? What do you think?

I think we'll see what exactly happens during his thread with Mara!five and whatever he might reveal in the process and go from there. The library is a safer bet. I'm not sure who might be able to repair a book. That's out of Felix's capabilities but the subject can be broached later.

edit: It also occurs to me that Phoebe from the Charmed universe left Felix and the Chimera group a set of crystals. These crystals can be arranged and used to set a trap, as they create a magical cage that keeps in evil creatures. That could be a way to trap him, if need be, assuming the Mara would trigger the crystals.

Library it can be then. :) Or if you have other ideas I'm open to that too. My dilemma is I don't want to make things too hard but also not too easy! So any ideas I'm all open to hear. :)

Re: crystals - oooh. I like that and can work with it. I'd say Mara!Five could be caught by that, it's definitely evil. For the other post I'm thinking of I can work in something where it could be more of a pressing need to contain him if that works?

My only question is how effective do you want Will to be in this. Would he be able to tell right away that hes changed? Is there any feeling of darkness he would be able to sense?

We've established before that Will can sense Five and what he is - I'd say he'd be attuned enough to know the difference between Five and the evil Mara, as Will does have radar for dark evil things. This is completely up to you though on how you want to play that. Will may even be able to contact Five, I don't know how psychic or whatever Will is tho? Thoughts there?

I would definitely say that Will should be able to sense the Mara, from what I've been reading about it. Actually, it will probably make him sick.

Hmm, his canon is pretty vague about what exactly he can do. He can speak mind to mind, and he has some ability at mental combat. Theres a scene where he and one of his enemies lash out at each others minds. He might be able to find Five, but I think it would hurt him.

Which could be an interesting way to do it.

/pets Will. If he is able to that might well be interesting - From the serials, where Five would be right now (his consciousness) is not in a very nice or good place. In the audio serial, the companions were able to reach him but that was from outside influence.

Definitely something interesting to play with methinks if it goes down that way. As an aside, Felix has a post up, would Will report his findings to him? I know tho that's a grey area as the comments have only just got going all over (I hate my timezone!)

Hmm, you know I honestly have no idea. Will's definitely going to try and do something by himself first. But I can't really see him willingly leaving Five in his condition to go get help. Hes too used to taking care of everything on his own. Theres a strong possibility that we might need to find a way to take Will out of the rest of the plot in some way to keep him from interfering.

SO I guess it all depends on what happens in this thread.

Still not all that familiar with Will's canon but I'm learning. Going off what I've picked up, my guess is that Will could probably do a lot of damage to Mara!Five? If so and the Mara figures that out, of course its going to want to make sure it stays around. Hmmm. Does Will sleep or is he capable of being made to sleep? As a way perhaps of taking Will down but with leeway on if you change your mind for him to pop up later? Or if you have another suggestion? Willing to work with what you're thinking here. :)

But yeah, Will knows at least one spell of destruction powerful enough that he was afraid to use it in the same room as his family. He also has the belt of signs with him, which is a mystical artifact created specifically to drive the dark away. I don't know if it would work on the Mara, but it would probably hurt.

Will does sleep, and he can be trapped in a kind of waking dream. Since Will's canon is so vague on his powers and weaknesses theres really a lot of leeway on what could be done. And we can always blame it on Will's inexperience. He has the power and knowledge, but hardly any practice at this kind of battle.

With what's happening in the thread so far, I hope I'm writing his reactions OK to what Will can do! (Tell me if I'm not! That's an order. :P )

Is that a way you'd like to take it? I have an idea for a next tag but wanted to check with you first. Trapping him in a dream (or nightmare) could be a possibility (as a point to work towards)?

Sounds like a plan! (I'm awful, but definitely voting for nightmare). I'll make a post after the Doctor's plot finishes for someone to come wake him up. And if Will loses, that is giving me all kinds of ideas for where to take him later on.

I was just wondering, since there are a few things she hasn't revealed to him yet. Things that can be a bit of a surprise. So, if there's any fighting, there may be a seal or two used. But, she'll be careful...
