ACTIVITY CHECK -- ADDITIONAL THREADS FOR SEPTEMBER

The following characters require additional threads and/or logs to fulfill activity criteria for September. The hiatus post was cleared of any expired hiatus dates, so any of the individuals who were on a valid hiatus during the month of September should not find their characters here. All the terms for activity requirements are detailed here.

Keep in mind that if you do not comment on the hiatus post or let a mod know, your hiatus does not count. It is your responsibility to comment on the hiatus post. Making a hiatus note on the OOC comm does not count.

If you spot any mistakes or dropped characters, please let us know.

You have until October 7th to comment with additional threads from the month of September. Those who do not supply any or sufficient additional threads will be moved to the sweep list. We've noted who needs reduced amounts due to hiatus.

In this case, the second bit I've asked Kayla about before suggesting it here -- as the nature between the two is different, and in a way it's easier to track the movement between journal to action where it's a visible activity versus a hidden thread, given this would be between two characters (closed in that sense) in person, in action, and qualify otherwise for being in the log community. That folks continue to thread in the original entry is often for continuity's sake over reluctance to move between communities.

Angel and Cupid have participated in two logs in the logs community, all of which are still ongoing and being actively tagged into. Most of these posts have been edited to reflect that they are participants in the "who" sections. This should make Angel completely safe, and Cupid with one log where he is in the "who" section.

In addition, here are some threads he has been in, all of which are still ongoing:

http://paradisa.livejournal.com/13603201.html?thread=828240513#t828240513
http://paradisa.livejournal.com/13603201.html?thread=828240513#t828240513
http://paradisa.livejournal.com/13664966.html?thread=834446278#t834446278
http://paradisa.livejournal.com/13569552.html?thread=825837840#t825837840

And then that thread with Ino, Sakura and Hinata that apparently doesn't count as tagging into a log. If need be I can have Sakura's player edit him into the "who" section of that log as well.

Actually, scratch that--he's been added in. All logs for Angel and Cupid should count now. :D

Again, the one log that I raised for activity before, she had threads with both Jo and Damian. There is also a log that I started at the end of the month but haven't had a chance to tag back into yet.

In terms of journal threads:
Thread
Thread

I also edited Alaric Saltzman into the "Who" section on the log he participated in with Max.

Good question! I literally go through the last couple of days of every month and record the following:

  • Character Name
  • Mun
  • Month
  • Type of post (open/filtered/private)
  • How many of those posts were made

So for instance I'll wind up with something like this:

    Image

If a character shows up on this list 3 times an email is sent to the mun with a warning and if they do not improve their AC over the next couple of weeks then the head mods make a decision concerning what action to take (drop the character, no apps, harsher AC--not accepting any posts at the end of the month, no posts where threads have been dropped, etc). Whatever they decide!
  • +1

Been here since day one and this has never been an issue with logs.

And really, do we need one more reason to discourage people to do logs?

    [identity profile] wield.livejournal.com 2011-10-01 09:12 pm (UTC)(link)
This is, to me, is frustrating because you guys aren't really being understanding. You are just saying "We have done it this way forever, too bad. Deal with it." Do you really think people would be in such an uproar if that's how they knew it to be done? I mean, there is obviously a miscommunication not with just one person, but several people on this list who thought things were done one way, but you guys are going another. This isn't someone just grasping at strings trying to hold onto their characters, these are tons of valuable and good players who thought they were clear with activity because they've done it this way over years.

This personally makes me upset because most of my cast and people I've made CR with are on this list and are going to get the boot just because of some, I guess we'll call it, miscommunication. I ask you guys to please, PLEASE be a little more understanding and sympathetic to your players.

From how I understand it, the logs are counted as automatic AC for the primary posters - just like a joint post in the main community (for example). However, doing a log post of 'X CHARACTER AND YOU' is the same as doing a regular post in the main community - the poster will get automatic AC, but the people tagging in don't.

I believe it happened like that for event posts and mini events too (for example the Host Club, I think only Tamaki was given AC as he posted it, and the Hosts were just classed as commenters). That's how I understand it as being done, anyway. But I could be wrong, I don't post in the logs comm very much so I'm less knowledgeable about it.

I think the rule has just been read in two different ways and it's just coming to light now, it's a little frustrating when wires get crossed, but I don't think anyone went into it trying to make AC harder for anyone.

To be honest, that is also what I thought -- logs were primary AC, if I felt and believe closed logs (not open ones) also counted for all those involved in the closed log. By its nature, closed logs are set up like joint posts, and you would hope people continue to respond in those posts as they took the time to set them up.

I'd hope they are equivalent furthermore as joint posts don't automatically equate to joint responses (to comments) from characters involved in the joint post. One may wish they did, yet I've seen otherwise (and at times been guilty of otherwise) in the journal community.

Like I've said, I frequently use the logs community to supplement the threads I've done because I am too lazy to keep track of my threads to save myself every month. This has never happened before, and I've been in the game for at least three years (two years prior, I think one year since I've been back). People who tag into logs and have their character added via the tags have always been able to waive lack of posts or threads. Basically tagging into a log has always been counted as being a joint poster in that log in the past, which is why so many of us who prefer the logs community are confused by this sudden change. The fact that the mods are claiming this is always the way it has been done just adds insult to injury because that is simply not the case.

As a specific example, last month (or the month prior), I tagged into Sasuke's open log with Cupid at the very end of the month. Cupid had one comment response to Sasuke, yet the fact that I had tagged into an open log and added Cupid's tag to the list of tags for that log (not the "who" section, mind you) allowed me to pass activity for that month (here is the log in question: http://paradisalogs.livejournal.com/685734.html). If anything, that should not have counted. It's confusing as many of the logs from this month (not just Cupid's, people like Sweets, for instance) have much more comments to logs they've tagged into yet they are still being asked to show proof of further activity. Hence my confusion on the matter.

    [identity profile] elementoflol.livejournal.com 2011-10-01 10:02 pm (UTC)(link)
    Yes that's what I thought.

However, I never thought that participating in an open log as a commenter counted for AC, just by the virtue of adding your tag on. Otherwise people would do that in the main community too?

Then that would class as a thread for AC instead of a primary AC post?

    [identity profile] elementoflol.livejournal.com 2011-10-01 10:07 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm a little confused why it should count as automatic AC to comment to an open log just by adding the character tag, when it doesn't work that way in the main community either.

I'm not saying it hasn't been working like that as, like I said, I rarely use the logs comm and so I don't know how AC has been counted for it in the past. I just mean for fairness sake, shouldn't it be counted the same way for both comms? This might sound like I'm arguing with you, I'm honestly not, I just wondered if you could offer more clarification as I don't understand.
encourage: (⇒ pay attention to what they say)

    [personal profile] encourage 2011-10-01 10:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Except that in the main community we've never been encouraged or told to tag entries with anything other than the tag of the one posting -- or ones posting, in joint posting cases. By that particular logic, why are we allowed to post our character tags to a post we are not making in the log comm, and that we are also not doing the equivalent of a joint post with? TO track more easily?

Then we should (by that logic) do the same in the journal community. Can you see how this logic works both ways? I'm not saying it's more right, but to apply ease of locating threads to the log comm and not the journal comm is misleading.

Which can lead into the perception, and sometimes reality, that posting in the log comm takes more work and energy than in the journal. Folks by and large are unaware you an [action thread] in the log comm, so I feel there can be a further divide in understanding when the thought of prosing being more time intensive comes up -- and it can be! -- versus the not entirely true belief that action threading doesn't take as much time. They both can, and both can be emotionally demanding and evocative. They're different formats, that's about all.

In the case with comment tags, perhaps what should be advised is only to tag posts in the log comm like you do in the main comm -- or open things up, and tag all posts whenever you comment into them. It would, either way, clarify activity. One gives you more commenting around threading activity, the other gives you head-post/joint-post activity.

    [identity profile] matchmaker.livejournal.com 2011-10-01 10:09 pm (UTC)(link)
No, it doesn't sound like you are arguing and I am not speaking to fairness or anything--just how things have always been done. I wouldn't mind a change, but a change without warning is where I take my issue here.

    [identity profile] elementoflol.livejournal.com 2011-10-01 10:20 pm (UTC)(link)
    I see what you mean!

I guess that's an issue to bring up in the HTG then, as it does seem like something that needs addressing.

Perhaps (in both comms) the main poster(s) could be tagged with a !character x, and then the commenters just with their normal tags? I don't know, just a thought.

    [identity profile] elementoflol.livejournal.com 2011-10-01 10:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah that makes sense, I see what you mean. I can't really comment on that personally, as I don't honestly use the log comm very much, but I see where you're coming from.

    [personal profile] encourage 2011-10-01 10:24 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd love for a system like that, if I know it's difficult because we have so many tags used, have a paid account for the main comm to deal with that, and we still have tags for basically every character here from game opening. To get two for each character active in game would mean necessitating the loss of old tags for characters no longer in game, starting with ones not here for some time. Based on the general number floating around, let's say we'd need... roughly seven hundred tags to account for characters currently in game -- one that is such as "!character x", and one that is simply "character x"!

    [identity profile] elementoflol.livejournal.com 2011-10-01 10:30 pm (UTC)(link)
It's definitely a pickle. I would say get rid of all the old tags for characters no longer in game, but I know how much hard work went into retagging all those old entries not so long ago and I don't want to demean that at all.

If at the same time -- old characters, old part of the game, and you can search through an LJ community by username to find all posts they made. I'd be willing to help compile a list of usernames of old characters, then nix those tags. You can always find their posts again by username!
