HOW'S MY DRIVING?

HOW'S MY DRIVING?

Comment with the names of the characters you play for feedback on your roleplaying. Other players will then reply to your comment telling you what they honestly think in a constructive manner. While both praise and critique is welcome, we'd like to remind you that this is a valuable tool for many of our members. We'd like to request that all comments remain constructive.

While the staff highly encourages everyone to participate, only comment if you are capable of giving and taking potentially harsh concrit in a mature, level-headed manner. Assume good faith at all times. Crit is meant to be resolved, not "won". Give mutual respect for each other's work and ideas. Aggressiveness creates unproductive stress and conflict. If you are emotionally compromised, you are not fit to captain the Starship Enterprise need to step back, take a break, and then return when you're ready.

Anonymous commenting is DISABLED. If you want to receive anonymous crit anyways, please take advantage of the Private HMD thread (see below).

We have provided a form to post with, if you would like to use it. Mentioning things like canon points, permanent losses and recent major events in their lives in Paradisa may help give people a better idea of the character's mindset and current actions.

Alternatively, you may choose to post a link to your private HMD thread on the character's journal and take comments there instead. The first thread of this post will be reserved for those people, and we will freeze those comments. People will be expected to follow the link to the character's individual HMD to give crit there.

Billy (Dr. Horrible) | Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog - [livejournal.com profile] need_to_rule_it
Private HMD: (optional) (http://need-to-rule-it.livejournal.com/1342.html)
Loss: The ability to design or build weaponry
Canon Point: Post-canon
Stuff: Just general stuff! Have no real special questions this time. He's my oldest, so I always wonder if he's still fun and Billy enough. Will be part of the villain plot, so gearing him up for that will be interesting.

Faye Valentine | Cowboy Bebop - [livejournal.com profile] luckyvalentine
Private HMD: (optional) (http://luckyvalentine.livejournal.com/1496.html)
Loss: Re-loss of her memories
Canon Point: Post-canon
Stuff: Again no real specific questions for her, I think. She's been especially obnoxious to people lately (sorry therapy loss folks) so want to make sure players aren't getting too sick of her trolling?

Legato Bluesummers | Trigun - [livejournal.com profile] endthem
Private HMD: (optional) (http://endthem.livejournal.com/327.html)
Loss: Most memories of Knives
Canon Point: End of episode 24
Stuff: Always desperate for feedback on Legato! I want him to be a fun villain for other people to play off of, and want to make sure his tricky voice is still strong, so... please voice any thoughts you have.

Prince Zuko | Avatar: The Last Airbender - [livejournal.com profile] honorinflames
Private HMD: ...hmm. really need to get on that.
Loss: Memories of Mai
Canon Point: Book 2, Early in episode 18
Stuff: I guess I can't keep calling him the baby of the family, huh? Mostly just curious to know if he feels like he's as strong of a character and involved in enough for how long he's been here? Feedback on voice is always super welcome too.

Open for concrit on myself as well! I've been making a conscious effort to have better habits as a player, but don't know if I've really gotten better about things yet.

I sincerely hope you don't take this the wrong way... but I am not fond of how godmoddy you describe and play Legato out to be. For one, I'd like to know what medium he is pulled from: manga or anime? If he's predominately anime, I can understand you incorporating his manga background since the anime never touches upon it but you pick at his powers and make him out to be this untouchable godmode when I'll be curt: Legato is not the godmode telepath you've been playing him as in Paradisa. In Trigun canon, the world they inhabit has small populations for "cities". They may as well not be cities but towns or villages. When Legato takes control of all the townspeople in the anime, the population is nowhere near the amount you wanted him to control for this upcoming Riful plot. The towns in the anime are ~1000 at most and even then, Vash was capable of hitting him with his gun at one point.

You have emphasized you "don't know" what Legato's "limits" are and by doing so, you didn't bother to give him any and assume he is more powerful than a majority of characters in Paradisa. That is why I don't bother dealing with him in game and the fact you are intimidating and vexing to deal with when it comes to him OOC-ly. You stated you would consent to characters capturing him, followed by characters and muns having to jump through hoops to figure out how to take down a character who realistically would not last against the likes of say, Clark Kent or the Doctors. You gave off a vibe of not wanting Legato to be dealt with long term with your insistence that he is "godmode" and "sneaky" so he would avoid the town and residents. I have heard you have avoided posting to the OOC comm for a long time about the townspeople being kidnapped by him because Legato was "sneaky" about it. In doing so? You godmodded dozens of characters off the bat, many of whom patrol the city. And now those who play hero types are being blamed for something they weren't aware of in the first place. It is not accomodating in the least and I do hope once this plot is done with you will be mindful on how you play your villains, as you've done the same with Billy in the past over the nightmares event. You agreed to characters determining the culprit and when Billy became a prime suspect you bailed on those involved and they had to force their characters to turn the other cheek.

Another one of my issues is how you deal with Legato's nihilist beliefs and behavior in game. In the anime, he simply wants to die, it's why he forces Vash to kill him. In Paradisa, every altercation he is faced with he is defensive and quick to retreat. Please explain this?

First and foremost, I need to deeply apologize for whatever is it that I did that made me seem at all intimidating or unapproachable OOC about anything. That... really is the absolute opposite of how I want to seem to anyone. So, whatever I did to make you feel that way, I am incredibly sorry for it.

Secondly, if I end up sounding tense or defensive at any point, I really don't mean it, and apologize in advance. I'm just a little caught off guard by this.

Okay, moving onto the crit-- and sorry for the wall of text! There was a lot to cover.

As far as my OOC treatment of things that my guys have done at various points, I know I've said a lot of this before so I apologize for any repetition. It was never my intention to be dodgy OOC about things; I've always tried to do my best to figure out how to handle things and communicate, so none of it was ever intentionally avoiding players or consequences. Some of it was rl hiatuses and miscommunication interfering, and a lot of it was just me being a dumbass - not trying to dodge the system. In the case of the delay in bringing his townspeople kidnappings to the OOC comm, it was a combination of me not knowing quite how to handle it and being indecisive, while some miscommunication was going on, and I dropped the ball further because of my hiatus at the time. The use of 'sneaky' came in when I was trying to explain why I was hesitant and confused on how to deal with it-- it was never meant as an excuse. I do recognize that it was confusing, I apologized, and I've been making every effort to avoid those mistakes since. If there's something else you think I could be doing in addition to this, please do let me know.

As for Legato not being an incredibly powerful telepath, I can maybe see where that argument could be made, but I think I really am going to have to respectfully disagree with it. The same with the populations of the towns and cities of Gunsmoke. I have canon-based reasons for my conclusions and I'd be more than happy to share them if you want. I've worked hard to do my best to nail down the specifics of his abilities as situations come up, since Nightow is so painfully vague, and I am constantly trying to bounce ideas off of and double-check myself with canon-savvy friends and castmates in both games-- this case included. I don't know if you want to get into a depthy discussion about this or not, but I will if you want to. I love comparing notes on the canon.

The part I really want to address, however, is the 'godmod' part, which... playing an unstoppable bully was never my intention. That just wouldn't be fun for me, and I don't want to put other people off from interacting with him. Yes, he is incredibly powerful, but I've tried to build in flaws and limits that make sense, and I talk with every player I use his abilities on before doing so to figure out how the two would logically work together. The Doctors, Delirium, and powerful psychics for example have all been confirmed to be able to be very effective against him, while characters with mostly physical-based powers like Clark are not nearly as effective. Nothing is decided until after discussing powers and outcomes of interactions with the muns, and I make sure to give them final say.

I am surprised to see his nihilism come up, however. I think I'm confused on how we disagree? Yes, he 'wanted to die' but that's not why he got Vash to kill him. I know I'm missing something here, so I'd be glad to discuss this with you if you can give me more explanation on what is concerning you.

But yes... I do appreciate you leaving me this crit! I really hope, in the future, you or others won't be afraid to come to me early on, since this really seems like something that has been building, but I AM glad that you spoke up. I would much rather hear what people have to say late than having them sit on something that bothers them forever, so thank you.

I think you're getting a lot better with balancing your characters out and it's been awesome to see more of Zuko around the place :)
