HOW'S MY DRIVING?

Comment with the names of the characters you play for feedback on your roleplaying. Other players will then reply to your comment telling you what they honestly think in a constructive manner. While both praise and critique is welcome, we'd like to remind you that this is a valuable tool for many of our members. We'd like to request that all comments remain constructive.

While the staff highly encourages everyone to participate, only comment if you are capable of giving and taking potentially harsh concrit in a mature, level-headed manner. Assume good faith at all times. Crit is meant to be resolved, not "won". Give mutual respect for each other's work and ideas. Aggressiveness creates unproductive stress and conflict. If you are emotionally compromised, you ~~are not fit to captain the Starship Enterprise~~ need to step back, take a break, and then return when you're ready.

Anonymous commenting is ENABLED. Anonymity doesn't detract from the validity of concrit. An anonymous compliment is a compliment; an anonymous crit is still a crit. However, if you are going to post anonymously, consider it your obligation to follow up –– it is frustrating for muns to never get a reply back, and HMD should be first and foremost an ongoing discussion.

We have provided a form to post with, if you would like to use it. Mentioning things like canon points, permanent losses and recent major events in their lives in Paradisa may help give people a better idea of the character's mindset and current actions.

Alternatively, you may choose to post a link to your private HMD thread on the character's journal and take comments there instead. The first thread of this post will be reserved for those people, and we will freeze those comments. People will be expected to follow the link to the character's individual HMD to give crit there.

childofhades: I love this kid dearly, and have no intentions of dropping him anytime in the foreseeable future, but I've been struggling with his voice recently. It's changed so much since he got here, and in part I think that's a natural shift – for the first time in his life he's around a bunch of people who would accept him even if they knew who his father was, and who seem genuinely interested in getting to know him, so I think that would make him come out of his shell a little. On the other hand, I don't want to stray too far from his roots. I know he's one of the lesser known characters here, but if anyone has any concrit I'd be very grateful.

boylolita: So having two snarky and negative characters is kind of starting to take a toll on my Hunny voice, and ever since I apped Alex he's started to get kind of weird. Too mechanical. So I'm doing a full canon review (anime and manga, this might take awhile) when I get the chance, and hopefully that will fix any problems.

delincuente: I'm officially in love with playing Alex. That's really all I have to say. It's sometimes hard to match her snark and humor from canon, but I'm working on it. She really is a joy. I could always improve on her, though, so if you have any crit fire away!

The past few months my activity has been atrocious, and I was a little lost as to stuff that was going on. I feel a little more ontop of things now, and with a better idea of what's going on in the game I think my activity has been a lot better.

Notes: He has some more unfortunate triggers running around, so he'll be different than he has been before (more angsty, violent, angry, etc), especially since he's afraid he didn't free his father like he thought. He'll get over that eventually.
Specific Crit Requests: Since there's not much canon to work with (KOJIMA WORK ON THIS GOD DAMN IT) Some of that mentioned above might be a sort of munfudge reaction. He was so depressed and barely had time to mourn, so I think it's only natural that now that he does have that time, he's conflicted and angry. Think differently? It would be nice to elaborate :3

► Asuka, as always, is a difficult one to get out there and get involved with people. I'm trying to get her more reasons to care about the castle and (some of) its residents. Recently, she's been becoming kind of friendly with Emil, so I'd like to get some more CR like that. THIS IS MY MISSION.

► Steph... Steph, I keep saying I'm going to bump her, and I WILL. I'm going to see what goes down in the issue of Supergirl this month that she appears in, then decide. If her role in that isn't wrapped up nicely, I'll probably just bump her to end of Batgirl #16.

► Teresa has an adult Clare! And a Miria! She's been adjusting to that, so I need to get her to define her role in this Riful madness. She's technically the highest rank of the current Claymores in Paradisa, and the one here longest, but not the strongest when it comes to leadership qualities.

State of the Characters aside, I'm sorry for terrible tagging lately. All of my accounts have been suffering during this LJ crap, AND my spring semester started this month. If I happened to drop any threads you want to continue, feel free to drop me a line any time and I'd be happy to :)

PLEASE stop using Adam Lambert and Ellen Page as PBs. I can't take Julian seriously anymore, and Ellen Page looks nothing like Jess. They both have plenty of source material to icon that you don't need these PBs that look nothing like your characters.

I don't have any character specific crit to offer you, but regarding possibly dropping Cassie I wold hold off until you have had a chance to see if taking a step back from major plots and too much modding stuff changes how you feel. Dropper's remorse is never fun, nor is picking up a character after the fact and having to start them from scratch. I have a feeling you might have been planning to hold off on this anyway, but I just thought I'd mention it. =]

I'm glad you pointed that out, because I didn't really think of that. I'd hate to realize that the only reason I couldn't handle her was because of workload, and then lightening it in more places than necessary.

I'm usually pretty good with giving the people I thread with stuff to bounce off of when I'm playing others, but with him I'm unsure what the good balance is between how quiet he is and how easy it is for people to talk to him at all. in general:

☛ clarity issues! i have been getting several complaints about joshua and dave being very difficult to talk to - they're both the type to go off on impenetrable tangents without really caring if the other person understands them. more than once i have had people im me asking what they're talking about or telling me they spent forever looking something they said up. i have been thinking about adding links to more salient details the reader should know to understand the basic gist of their spiel, but i want to know what you guys think.
☛ HOMESTUCK CAST: vis a vis the text permissions post - should i be putting it up monthly or bimonthly (as in once every two months, derp)? I was already thinking about putting it up again tomorrow in light of current events and the recent cast expansion. :D

Just as a note for all of your characters -- please, please make better use of contacting muns and asking for permissions before doing stuff. For example, I've seen a lot of threads where Dainn wanted to enter someone's head or something along those lines, and it's really important that you respect the no godmodding rule and ask the mun of that character through PM/IM/email before doing so, even if you're pretty sure they'll be cool with it.

in all honestly, i saw the complaints about using PBs in the anon thread so i've been backing off on using them in game. however, there are times when i don't have much of a choice to use them as my characters lack in certain expressions (ie. Julian actually smiling or Jessica looking more depressed). they're also partly for another game which doesn't mind using PBs for comic characters in the end anyways.

i'm sorry that you can't take Julian seriously anymore. choosing PBs is personal preference on whether the character looks like the person or not, so while you may not think think that they look like the character, other people do.

however, if this really is an issue, i'll stop using them in this game all together. my apologies, anon, and i hope that maybe you'll feel better about my characters after this.

I don't mind the use of PBs at all. The issue was that the ones you chose look nothing like your characters. That was my critique. As far as I can tell, neither character is lacking in facial expressions if you can make well over a hundred icons for them. Maybe consider other PBs that look more like your characters.

That clarity issue one is a tricky one: my personal opinion is immediately to say no, stay true to the character even if it makes it a little harder to understand, but linkin' up some shit couldn't hurt!

On the text permissions, monthly, I think! Wouldn't want these things to have resentment building up over a two-month period. :(

On dropping a character...THANO I LOVE EVERY FUCKING THING YOU DO. That first. But dropping one may be best, so you can focus on raising activity across the board. Sora especially is one of those awkward types that seems ooc if they're not RIDICULOUSLY ACTIVE. So, it might help! One character less is such a load of stress off anyone's back, seriously.
