Berserk World Change Plot: DAY ONE BEGINS

Welcome to Midland!

At the stroke of midnight, residents will abruptly find themselves in their rooms in the castle regardless where they were before, illuminated by torch-and-candle light. The interiors of their quarters are as lavish as ever, but catered to the setting instead of personalized as they had been before. There is no electricity, no hot running water, no more ghosts...

Instead, the halls are filled with the bustle of flesh-and-blood maids and castle staff moving about to cater to the whims of their "esteemed guests," all friendly and polite, eager to please.

Wardrobes are filled with clothing of the era, and any wishes for new adornments will be granted - in the fashion of the times, of course! Sorry. If you were hoping for a t-shirt and jeans, you'll simply have to adjust. Wishes for food or other accommodations will be delivered by the hired help instead of poofing into existence, as well - so be nice to those servants, would you? The elevators are now non-existent, and any sign of technology that surpasses the medieval era has been done away with.

On the ground floor, there is a new addition of a throne room - heavily guarded by soldiers who won't respond to prodding or inquiries. Any efforts to infiltrate/spy on/get through this door and into the throne room - regardless your character's powers - seems to be barred by the castle as if there is an invisible barrier surrounding it. Strange, isn't it...?

The town has been similarly changed - the City Royale is now a true, proper castle-town ala the picture above. The denizens seem happy-go-lucky, as if there's cheerful spirit in the air, and it's intoxicating! There's rumors of a festival tomorrow, and all the castle residents are invited. Taverns are abustle with music and dancing, bar wenches getting their bootays slapped by drunk off-duty soldiers and hardworking citizens alike. Any questions about what happened will be met with odd looks - whatever do you mean, Traveler?

This is Wyndym Castle, Midland - and it's always been this way.

Let's see how long it lasts, shall we?

OOC NOTES: PLEASE READ!

- Characters are NOT DEPOWERED YET. Demon characters will NOT BE NOTICING ANY CHANGES YET - this will occur on Saturday evening, after the surprise event, NOT NOW. There have been NO CHANGES to ANYONE yet! EXCEPTIONS ARE: robots, cyborgs, or other technologically-inclined creatures, who have been automatically turned human/animal/etc as per the previous posts.
- Technology HAS been depowered/altered to fit the setting. Please consult the prior plot posts if you're confused about what will/won't work!
- Your character has just woken up in their room in the castle! The ghosts are now human servants and will be delivering any wishes to you that you make from the castle, including performing services like cleaning something up for you or mending your clothing. They won't be very talkative, but very friendly and eager to please.
- The fields are grassy and lush. The wildlife is typical middle age-Europeon - foxes and squirrels and birds and rabbits and deer and wolves in the forests, cattle grazing in farmland a few miles down the road, etc. The tropical paradise is no more for this week.
- This world change only effects up to the Dead Zone, and does not go beyond it.
- If you have any questions, feel free to ask them here!
- Enjoy. ...OR ELSE.

I didn't ask this before because it's ... somewhat irrelevant/A MINOR DETAIL, but: cigarettes exist, y/n? According to the Wikipedias, they didn't hit Europe until the 19th century?

Seconding this inquiry!

Really? I thought it was way before that, considering that tobacco was a huge cash crop in the New World colonies... unless I'm mixing up my history, in which case I'll brb returning my college degree.

FFFFFF ACTUALLY I was just skimming the article. :( I missed the paragraph above that /fail

The South and Central American cigarette used various plant wrappers; when it was brought back to Spain, maize wrappers were introduced, and by the seventeenth century, fine paper. [...] By 1830, the cigarette had crossed into France, where it received the name cigarette; and in 1845, the French state tobacco monopoly began manufacturing them.

They don't ... say when it was brought to Spain. LOL WHY AREN'T THERE INDEPTH STUDIES ABOUT THE HISTORICAL USE OF CIGARETTES THAT I CAN REFERENCE FOR MY RP? WHY???

Hey, if it exists, someone has written a doctoral thesis on it. Keep Googling! :D

(Since it says Spain, I'm going to assume tobacco made it there within a relatively short time of Columbus discovering the Americas, if he didn't bring it back himself.)

I actually found a site dedicated completely to this. o_o
1492-11: Jerez and Torres Discover Smoking; Jerez Becomes First European Smoker

Rodrigo de Jerez and Luis de Torres, in Cuba searching for the Khan of Cathay (China), are credited with first observing smoking. They reported that the natives wrapped dried tobacco leaves in palm or maize "in the manner of a musket formed of paper." After lighting one end, they commenced "drinking" the smoke through the other. Jerez became a confirmed smoker, and is thought to be the first outside of the Americas. He brought the habit back to his hometown, but the smoke billowing from his mouth and nose so frightened his neighbors he was imprisoned by the holy inquisitors for 7 years. By the time he was released, smoking was a Spanish craze.
So, late 15th century? That's Renaissance, isn't it?

HAHAHAHAHAHA that's fucking hilarious! "OH SHIT, HE'S BREATHING FIRE!"

My gut wants to say Renaissance, but my history is rusty from disuse and that era wasn't my specialty anyway, so don't quote me on that. :)
