HOW'S THE GAME?

It's time for another round of Game Discussion, also known as

HOW'S THE GAME?

Here we come together to discuss the game, its plots, the settings, and just about anything we can think of that we'd like to talk about, expand upon, improve, change, etc.

This is not an HMD for players and their characters; this should be about the game's function as a whole and not the people in it. If there is something you feel is absolutely necessary to address that involves a specific person, please IM a mod first to discuss it. We can be reached at valawie (Valerie), fan of todd (TF), or never die ftw (Ashley).

Anonymous will be on for this round. Sock journals are still allowed.

Please feel free to bring up any game-related topic you'd like to discuss. All topics will be linked in the main post.

PARADISA BIRTHDAY FUND

[personal profile] anonim 2013-09-18 03:06 am (UTC)(link)
What if we start a birthday fund for Paradisa to gift paid accounts or extra icons for muns celebrating their birthdays?

It would be nice to have and should be easy to maintain, since many muns in game already give paid accounts to each other. It will be voluntary, so anyone who wants to contribute to the fund can do so and anyone who doesn't want to be in the birthday roster can opt out. The one overseeing the fund must update a page listing all the contributions either named or anonymous to keep themselves accountable (so that, if you send in points to the fund, the page should show the new total points in the fund and your contribution listed, whether anonymous or not, and you should complain if the amount is not reflected). They will also keep a birthday roster of existing muns who want to participate.

I'd be happy to contribute the first few points to keep the fund going for a bit until we get more donations (as for being anonymous, I'd rather donate without revealing my name). I can foresee potential problems only if people start being jerks and app into the game before their birthday only to drop soon after or apping as two muns instead of one to get double the gifts, but I don't see any point in policing that unless it becomes a recurring problem, the first one especially since the second one would be hard to prove. Do you think we should have a clause to say the mun must be in the game for at least 3 or 6 months before they can join the fund (not necessarily the same character, just the mun)?

Who would want to see this? Any feedback? Any other potential problems you see?

I love this idea! But instead of giving out paid accounts for birthdays, why not give it out to muns/characters who tag out the most? It will still be voluntary if we make the muns post their own proofs and we can award it to the one with the most, every month or so. It's fair and transparent. It's in no way required, but if people would like a paid account then they can get it by tagging out more. We can work out the details like tags into closed logs don't count and/or you can't keep tagging the same character repeatedly. The gist of the idea is to make people branch out more and get a little reward in return.

This is also a good idea!

If we went with this program as a tagging incentive, I would recommend that once a person has won, they would not be eligible to win again. The reason I say this is because we have some serious boomerang taggers that can easily punch out hundreds of tags in short amounts of time. It wouldn't be fair for the same person to keep winning every time.

Would this also be for people who tag out in general or people who tag out to new players? Would the person overseeing this be willing to keep track (or be able to keep track, I should say) of who is actually tagging fresh faces rather than just tagging the same people but different characters? This would require a bit more discussion and maybe a little more work, but it's definitely doable!

I know this has been a suggestion in the past, but I can't seem to find where it was discussed before. :T

If we hold this every month, I think it's fair to say the same mun can only win once every six months (a year seems too long in RP time).

The anon above suggests that muns who want to win can submit their own proofs, or someone else wanting to nominate them should submit proofs for them, which will then be checked by the one maintaining the fund. I think this is fair as there may be others who are happy to tag out but would rather let others win the paid accounts (me included), so that makes this is entirely opt-in. What do you think?

Ah, I love this! I'd be happy to pitch in too.

Adding to Valerie there, maybe instead of counting the number of tags it should just be per thread per character? So A tags B counts as one no matter how long the thread goes, and maybe tagging a character introed in the past month earns you double or something?

That's great! I like that idea of awarding double the points for tagging new characters. With the game's speed, I would even say characters introed in the past three months instead of one month.

On another note entirely, would you like to help me run this? I would ask Valerie but I don't want to make this too official and have a mod run it. I would be happy to pitch in to start but I don't want to be the one running it by myself for various reasons. I foresee that the only things we have to do are post in the OOC comm to announce it then update that page with the amount and names whenever donations come in. The bulk of the work would be at the end of the month when we need to check the proofs.

I can PM you so we can talk in more detail if you don't mind.

I would love to! Two OOC posts a month and checking the proofs should be fine. I'll find the time. Feel free to PM me to chat!

I actually think this is a FANTASTIC idea, and would be more than happy to contribute a few points to the effort. I do agree we need to make it so a mun can only win once maybe every six months or a year? IDK we can iron out those details later.

But I think it's a great idea and would be a good way to get people to tag out more, since I think we can all agree this is a problem in the game.

Thank you, anon! I will try to get this off the ground as soon as I can.

Great idea, anon!

I suggested birthday because I needed an excuse to have a fund to give out nice things to people, but this is an even better idea as it can promote more tagging out especially to new characters. I would only maintain that giving is the main idea, so if there's ever anyone who's down in the dumps and can use cheering up though they haven't been too active recently because of it, we shouldn't be a stickler for rules. Giving is the point, so I would give out bonus paid accounts if the rest of the community agrees, just to be nice :)

This is a super cute idea, anon. I really like it!

The only reservation I have about this is publicly listing the amount of points a person contributes. I know that this is solely for keeping track of the points and making sure that there's no funny business, but I wouldn't want anyone to feel bad about being unable to contribute as many points as another player. At the very worst case scenario, I wouldn't want someone to say that Player A only contributed 5 points but Player B contributed 600 points, and use it to say that Player A isn't giving their fair share or just donating as little as possible to still be in the pot. I'd recommend that the person overseeing this would keep the amounts to themselves, but publicly list the participants.

As for how long someone should be in the game, I'd go with 2-3 months. By then it should be clear if a person is just joining for a free paid or if they plan to stick around.

Good point. I would still like to keep a tally of the amount of contributions given to make sure there's no funny business, as you say. We can keep the two in separate places, so one list for the donation amounts listed by date sent but not attributed to anyone and another alphabetical list for named contributors. What do you think?

I agree with three months minimum stay :)
