Steampunk Race!
It's race time! Yes, the time for the Steampunk race has finally arrived.
1. Race begins and ends at the northern outpost. Therefore, all vehicles must function in the Dead Zone. The terrain between the northern outpost and the Wanderer's Yard is not flat, so be sure to account for this.
2. Thou shalt use mechanical power such as steam power only. Electricity shalt thou not use, nor either shalt thou use nuclear, draft animals, or other non-mechanical soruces. Internal combustion is right out.
3. The vehicle must be driven by someone other than the inventor to prove that it can be used by others in the future.
4. The vehicle must be able to carry a driver, at least four passengers, and at least 50 pounds of luggage per person.
5. In order to win, the vehicle must make better time than a horse and rider going to the Yard and back at a mild walk.
6. Mild variations on the route are okay, but the Live Zone border will be manned by automated drones. Anyone entering the Live Zone will be disqualified.
Didn't sign up before but still want to race? That's fine! Just make a comment in the "Racers" section of the main post. Want to participate without actually racing? There's also a space for spectators, commentators, and hecklers hanging out at the northern outpost.
How will the winners be determined? At midnight GMT (8 PM EST, 5 PM PST) edit: midnight GMT tomorrow, Sunday June 8 to allow for backtagging! everyone who has commented in the Racers section of the main post will receive a number and Random.org will give us the winner. If you want to have your racer participate but NOT win, just drop a note here! The winner shall receive 5000 Caisos and an exclusive contract to build at least five similar vehicles for future expeditions. And bragging rights, of course. At this time the final section of the post will also go up declaring the winner.
