That gif is of Katerina Petrova. She is human. She is circa 15th century. She is full of hope and happiness and actually believes in love. She is also showing up in the castle as if she was a brand new castle resident. Now, this works exceptionally well - because for all those who saw Bonnie's announcement, Katherine Pierce left the castle and went home over a month ago. Having this new, earlier version of Katherine show up as a new resident is completely plausible. In fact, most people that she met on the cruise met "Elena" and the only one in the castle that knows Katherine is still around is Ezio, who might be confused when his house guest vanishes and turns up from a different century.

Katerina will arrive in her own room, with her own name on the nameplate, and she will be very confused. This loss will run from tonight until the end of the month!
