HOW'S THE GAME?

HOW'S THE GAME?

It's been awhile! It's time for another round of Game Discussion, also known as "How's The Game?"

Here we come together to discuss the game, its plots, the settings, and just about anything we can think of that we'd like to talk about, expand upon, improve, change, etc.

This is not an HMD for players and their characters; this should be about the game's function as a whole and not the people in it. If there is something you feel is absolutely necessary to address that involves a specific person, please IM a mod first to discuss it. We can be reached at terraqueous orb (Kayla), end title (Fudgey) or a great fanfare (Jenn). (Though Jenn is on hiatus right now because her laptop is broken, so Kayla or Fudgey would be best for right now!)

Anonymous will be left off for this round (see first section).

Here are the sections that we've come up with. Add your own and we'll edit it into the list.

Anonymous: Why is it turned off?
What do the mods/helpers do, anyways?
How is my activity being monitored?
Activity check changes
Applications/turnover rate
 → Test Drive Comm
Abilities on the application
Villains & Heroes
 → Recent Villain Activity
 → Upcoming Villain Activities/Plots
Death
World Plot/Paradisa Lore
 → Concrete Resolutions, etc.
Canon Updates
Mini-plot Planning
Changes since last HTG
Plots in General
Regular Plots?

How's The Game will now be held quarterly, in order to avoid excessively long stretches in which there is no outlet for discussion.

It really kind of hurts and surprises me to hear that people are having problems like that.

I just want to say that, just because a character is depicted having only heterosexual relationships... does not mean that they are strictly heterosexual? And if they aren't pictured having romantic relations at all in canon, this does not make them heterosexual by default, and otherwise only if Word of God says so? The only thing that sets it in stone is if a character comes out and says 'Hey what up, I identify as ____' and even that isn't... set in stone because sexuality is fluid and that should not be a revolutionary concept, guys.

But I'm also agreeing with Nita; a lot of the time, it comes down to interpretations. For example, way back when I had Jet, I read him as straight and played him as straight, but also as very fluid (thought I don't think it ever became an issue in game) because to me, gender isn't something he'd fret over for too long. Albus as well, to some extent: he had no intentions of getting romantic with anyone, but if he had gotten very close to any of his female CR, I'd have been willing to walk that road, and see how he took it, etc.

I think I kind of lost my thread there, BUT BASICALLY sexuality is fluid y'all, straight relations ≠ straight, and the basis for someone being OOC just... should... so not be directly tied to the gender of their romantic partners.

Gonna stop now because lol feelings.

Yeah, I could probably talk forever about how we default to the standard heterosexist assumption that a character is heterosexual because of one or two canon romances or maybe we just never saw. IDK THIS TOPIC IS SO FUN TO DEBATE but I don't know if it has any bearing on the game as a whole. This is strictly a character thing and a very small percentage of characters and should be taken up with the mods/players in question.

The only thing I CAN say is that for anyone who has said hurtful things in the past, to mind what they say in the future. Because any legitimate issues brought up drown easily when you start assuming things that can be hurtful and even hateful. It brings a hostile atmosphere to the game and we don't need that. I'm sure we can approach OOC issues in a diplomatic manner or at least we should be trying that.

Euw heterosexism.

Yeah. An issue like this should really never have degenerated into conflict. Hopefully the people who have issues with it are willing to contact mods and the players in question, listen, explain, etc.

Right, what you're saying here, Nita. There's not much to really discuss on it ): It's just something I hope people will be a bit more careful about dealing with in the future. Even if it's a small percent of the game that are actually rping out slash and femslash pairings, I hope people just didn't realize how some of what was being said sounded and are a little more careful when bringing it up in the future.

I don't think most people are, if it helps? ):

And I'm definitely not disagreeing with everything you're saying here! It does get kind of tricky, since I know everyone has slightly different interpretations of sexuality based on how they understand it to work for them, but I think when it comes to rp, unless it's (somehow) blatantly offensive, I think the way people portray sexuality isn't really something that should be questioned. That might just be my opinion though.

Either way, I'm sorry! I'm not trying to upset people by bringing this up.

kjahsdas no no no Ruru, don't apologise. ;; Sorry if it came across badly, but I agree with you're saying. And yes, I agree that it really doesn't need to become a THING unless it really somehow goes off the deep end. I guess I might have gotten a little carried away with my word-vomit up there.

I don't think you're upsetting anyone at all, and I'm glad you brought it up! Again, sorry if I worded myself badly. ♥

No no! Your wording was fine, I was just worried I'd already opened up that can of worms without meaning to. I'm hoping not to upset anyone by bringing this up, since it can be a very tricky subject to deal with at times.

But okay, good! I'm glad to hear that ♥
