HOW'S THE GAME?

HOW'S THE GAME?

It's been awhile! It's time for another round of Game Discussion, also known as "How's The Game?"

Here we come together to discuss the game, its plots, the settings, and just about anything we can think of that we'd like to talk about, expand upon, improve, change, etc.

This is not an HMD for players and their characters; this should be about the game's function as a whole and not the people in it. If there is something you feel is absolutely necessary to address that involves a specific person, please IM a mod first to discuss it. We can be reached at terraqueous orb (Kayla), end title (Fudgey) or a great fanfare (Jenn). (Though Jenn is on hiatus right now because her laptop is broken, so Kayla or Fudgey would be best for right now!)

Anonymous will be left off for this round (see first section).

Here are the sections that we've come up with. Add your own and we'll edit it into the list.

Anonymous: Why is it turned off?
What do the mods/helpers do, anyways?
How is my activity being monitored?
Activity check changes
Applications/turnover rate
 → Test Drive Comm
Abilities on the application
Villains & Heroes
 → Recent Villain Activity
 → Upcoming Villain Activities/Plots
Death
World Plot/Paradisa Lore
 → Concrete Resolutions, etc.
Canon Updates
Mini-plot Planning
Changes since last HTG
Plots in General
Regular Plots?

How's The Game will now be held quarterly, in order to avoid excessively long stretches in which there is no outlet for discussion.

The calendar is something we're hoping to keep as a permanent feature from now on because like you said, it does help with letting people know what's going on and where :) I was speaking to Kayla about it just a few days ago actually! So have no fears on that one--we'll be doing our best to handle that.

On spacing for plots, the early-year was a time when a lot of the mods/helpers were on hiatus and we hadn't formally sat down and talked with one another to sort anything out so the all-over-the-place sort of feel I think reflected that. The next couples of weeks/months should see a huge improvement in this and we've already taken steps to getting things all sorted out♥ But if there are specific issues/instances you want explained or examined further just let us know!

Re: Plotting Helper

I'd be down for an idea like this! I don't know about the others but I'd be more than happy to help facilitate something like this. I actually think it's a good idea to know what's going on and when!

IDK IF I GOT EVERYTHING IF I MISSED STUFF LEMME KNOW

I understand it can be hectic and hard to get the mods/helpers together. Do you guys have like... a post you can all access for talking together when you can't be online at the same time or something like that? That way, you can leave notes for each other when you have the time, and you can make progress during the day without having to wait to be in touch or online all at the same hour.

This problem might also, again, be remedied with a mod/helper charged with plotting! I'd be happy to help with something like this, so if there's an interest... feel free to let me know. :> Since my situation RL changed, I'll have a lot more free time, and plotting is my sweet, sweet sunshine.

As for the "flow" of plots - I'm glad our mods will be more cognizant and are sorting everything out, but I'm wondering what sort of steps are being taken?

[identity profile] orz-woeisme.livejournal.com 2011-05-14 10:51 pm (UTC)(link)
We do, actually! We use it for applications atm--any other issues we have are sent via email daily-ish (depending on when the issue comes up).

And if you're interested then yesss please do apply when the helper apps open up you would be fantastic♥

flkjsdf I definitely will, that sounds like my cup of tea bb :>

ALSO I WAS THINKING. What about some sort of plotting meme? I'm thinking the mods could put it up with a poll asking what plots people they like most/least, since it seems we have a detachment between those that are getting submitted, and those people have said they'd like to see. Then, in the comments below, people can respond with either plots they'd like help fleshing out, random little ideas they have others can elaborate and build on, or discuss more built-up ideas to get feedback and playerbase input.

It looks like that sort of thing might go over well right now when we seem to need more player plot submissions?

[identity profile] orz-woeisme.livejournal.com 2011-05-15 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
Would this be similar to the proposed miniplot meme (http://paradisaooc.livejournal.com/3330027.html?thread=89675755#t89675755)? :O

[identity profile] custodismundi.livejournal.com 2011-05-15 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
Sort've, but this one would be for the big, game-wide, huge plots involving things that would effect everyone rather than smaller-scale things. You know, like a world change vs. Eris for example? :>

I think it wouldn't have to be held frequently -- maybe just whenever we're getting really low on plot submissions or getting the same amount of "plot type X." Right now, we have no way of knowing what SORT of plots people are looking for, nevermind what ideas they might have and need input to flesh out and make into great events!

[identity profile] orz-woeisme.livejournal.com 2011-05-15 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
Oooh--I get it :D Sounds good! I'll bring this to the others' attention.

[identity profile] custodismundi.livejournal.com 2011-05-15 01:28 am (UTC)(link)
o bb... *^*

[identity profile] dusk.livejournal.com 2011-05-15 01:33 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not sure this is necessary actually. We already have a lot of people proposing to use memes to discuss this stuff when ... we have a discussion post right here! It's easy enough to ask people here what kinds of plots they want to see, and when HTG is held again (aka in another few months since it's being held quarterly) we can ask again.

[identity profile] custodismundi.livejournal.com 2011-05-15 01:37 am (UTC)(link)
My only concern is that the post has been up a while -- and I'm not sure that everyone would see another section added into the mix, now. This is something that effects everyone in a big way -- the plots potentially shape the building of CR and the flow of our characters' moods and development.

[identity profile] dusk.livejournal.com 2011-05-15 01:40 am (UTC)(link)
You have a point, but we'd link it up in the top sections list where everyone can see. If we don't get enough/many responses we can always link it seperately on the OOC comm. :)

[identity profile] custodismundi.livejournal.com 2011-05-15 01:42 am (UTC)(link)
I DON'T KNOW I'M JUST LAZY and I imagine a lot of other people are too. I figure for something important you'd hypothetically want the most feedback in the laziest way available, and a poll is great for that. A few buttons to click without the need to tl;dr or anything, and you have people telling you what they felt about the types of plots we've had and would like in the future :>

Either way we'll get feedback, I just think we'll get better quality feedback with a discussion post/meme reserved for that!

[identity profile] dusk.livejournal.com 2011-05-15 01:48 am (UTC)(link)
Makes sense. However, I'm really worried that with all of these memes and OOC things proposed for plotting and CR etc etc popping up on here that people will be spending too much time OOC and not enough time actually .... playing the game, rofl.

I think what I'm gonna try to do to compromise here is set up a section in here for discussing the subject and based on what we hear here I'll throw up a poll later with the options brought up here? Does that seem fair?

[identity profile] custodismundi.livejournal.com 2011-05-15 01:53 am (UTC)(link)

Right now we primarily rely on emails to communicate, but when the stars and planets align and we're all online, we'll hop into chats together. Damn planets need to line up more often.

I would also be cool with a plotting helper. Speaking from someone whose hours are less conventional than the rest of the team, it can be something of a challenge to get everyone together to sort out when to schedule events, when to place certain plots, figure out what plots need to be when, etc etc. Having someone who is able to sort all these things out without pulling their hair out would be great.

[identity profile] todd-fan.livejournal.com 2011-05-15 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
I would totally be behind a plotting helper too. As Val said, we're on a mixed set of timezones here, and us actually being all on at the exact same time to do anything happens once in a blue moon. So someone who can be an epic co-ordinator would really help out, especially if that was their main job,

Yessssss, HOORAY FOR A REGULAR CALENDAR. I have to say, I really love having a calendar crop up, since it helps me decide what to sign people up for. If I know I won't be available? I find a way around, and there's a lot less stress ... especially for characters like Five, who would ideally poke his nose into everything, but, uh, I have this thing called a life. ;)

I love the idea of plotting helpers, too, and having a meme from time to time where people can throw out ideas would be a great way to implement plots.
