HOW'S THE GAME?

HOW'S THE GAME?

It's been awhile! It's time for another round of Game Discussion, also known as "How's The Game?"

Here we come together to discuss the game, its plots, the settings, and just about anything we can think of that we'd like to talk about, expand upon, improve, change, etc.

This is not an HMD for players and their characters; this should be about the game's function as a whole and not the people in it. If there is something you feel is absolutely necessary to address that involves a specific person, please IM a mod first to discuss it. We can be reached at terraqueous orb (Kayla), end title (Fudgey) or a great fanfare (Jenn). (Though Jenn is on hiatus right now because her laptop is broken, so Kayla or Fudgey would be best for right now!)

Anonymous will be left off for this round (see first section).

Here are the sections that we've come up with. Add your own and we'll edit it into the list.

Anonymous: Why is it turned off?
What do the mods/helpers do, anyways?
How is my activity being monitored?
Activity check changes
Applications/turnover rate
 → Test Drive Comm
Abilities on the application
Villains & Heroes
 → Recent Villain Activity
 → Upcoming Villain Activities/Plots
Death
World Plot/Paradisa Lore
 → Concrete Resolutions, etc.
Canon Updates
Mini-plot Planning
Changes since last HTG
Plots in General
Regular Plots?

How's The Game will now be held quarterly, in order to avoid excessively long stretches in which there is no outlet for discussion.

Given that the sole activity requirement some games have is a fifteen+ comment thread at some point during the month, I'm inclined to agree. 10+ threads with 15+ comments is maybe easy to fill for our more active players, but a more casual player shouldn't be punished for being... casual.

In addition to this, however, I don't believe the post requirement should be dropped entirely, because then it might become really hard to build CR with some characters if they just never posted. Maybe we could make some kind of combined post+threads requirement, and also make it where in that case, if the post was private, it didn't count? I think theoretically a post should be a cr-building activity and private posts are neat and interesting to read but kind of nip opportunities to build cr in the bud.

What sort of compromise do you think we could make then, to account for activity without punishing the casual players? Something like a smaller thread requirement, but large comment count? (see above)

I like stick's suggestion for balancing number of threads + required comment numbers! It feels like a nice balance to me.

I agree, casual players shouldn't be punished. I mean sometimes RL comes in the way and tagging will suffer/slow and then we're left struggling to make ends meet for the end of the month and stressing that oh no won't make AC.

Yeah. I'm lucky if I can make one post let alone the two required for AC. I'm the type who prefers to be casual and thread rather than post an entry. And yes! Private posts shouldn't count, I agree. :)

Yeah, really the beauty of paradisa right now is it can kind of cater to what people want - people who want to make it their main game, make tons of posts, and devote lots of time to commenting around, and people who just want to thread here casually and step away from the game a lot.

And I have characters who are very posty and characters who are very thready, so I would like to see options when it comes to AC, and filling it out, rather than a one size fits all thing which might not be accommodating to some players.
