HOW'S THE GAME?

HOW'S THE GAME?

It's been awhile! It's time for another round of Game Discussion, also known as "How's The Game?"

Here we come together to discuss the game, its plots, the settings, and just about anything we can think of that we'd like to talk about, expand upon, improve, change, etc.

This is not an HMD for players and their characters; this should be about the game's function as a whole and not the people in it. If there is something you feel is absolutely necessary to address that involves a specific person, please IM a mod first to discuss it. We can be reached at terraqueous orb (Kayla), end title (Fudgey) or a great fanfare (Jenn). (Though Jenn is on hiatus right now because her laptop is broken, so Kayla or Fudgey would be best for right now!)

Anonymous will be left off for this round (see first section).

Here are the sections that we've come up with. Add your own and we'll edit it into the list.

Anonymous: Why is it turned off?
What do the mods/helpers do, anyways?
How is my activity being monitored?
Activity check changes
Applications/turnover rate
 → Test Drive Comm
Abilities on the application
Villains & Heroes
 → Recent Villain Activity
 → Upcoming Villain Activities/Plots
Death
World Plot/Paradisa Lore
 → Concrete Resolutions, etc.
Canon Updates
Mini-plot Planning
Changes since last HTG
Plots in General
Regular Plots?

How's The Game will now be held quarterly, in order to avoid excessively long stretches in which there is no outlet for discussion.

I don't know. Is it plausible for a character to only have had 5 interactions (outside their own initial 1 post) in a month? Technically speaking if the threads were each with 1 different person that means it's only 5 people tagged in a month--not a huge amount of activity for people concerned about CR.

Of course thread length also plays a role--some characters rack up comment threads of over 200 posts.

But I can definitely see where you're coming from :) Would something like 6 or 7 threads @ 20+ comments be any better?

[identity profile] herexcellency.livejournal.com 2011-05-14 06:50 pm (UTC)(link)
The thing is not everyone is concerned about CR. There are some people who prefer to have casual CR and don't make it a top priority, or maybe that's just me. I know in Para it's not my main priority to establish as much CR as I possibly can with every single other character Kahlan can come across, but if someone's so concerned about their CR and they want more more more more then I'm sure they're more than capable of going and getting it.

For only 5 interactions, outside of their one initial post, it's only really a minimum suggestion. :) I'm not saying they should be restricted to just five threads alone. If they want 10 threads of CR, by all means ... whatever floats their boat, they can accomplish that, I'm sure no one will stop them heheh

Thread length does play a role, yes, especially in the case of people dropping threads, which might be hugely possible if the minimum is beneath 10 comments per thread. I think if there are people who are so concerned with their CR that they'll do more than the minimum for their own sakes, so having a minimum wouldn't really affect the - as Brian put it - posting superstars. It would just be something for those who aren't interested in boosting their CR to the max.

:) Awesome. And ... 6-7 threads with 10+ comments would be much better. We have to keep in mind that there are, unfortunately, people who will stop tagging if you don't tag them within 6-12 hours. I personally love to backtag but there are some who get bored (for lack of a better word) if they aren't responded to immediately and they'll drop the thread, which honestly is hardly fair if we're expected to make up to 20+ comments a thread just to pass AC.

Augh. Does this make sense, I apologize if it doesn't.

Oh. ALSO. If someone can't make the minimum of X number of threads with X+ number of comments, what then? Would there be an option to add comments together to make up for what is lacking? Example: You have 4 threads two of which have 20 comments each but the other 2 threads have a total combination of 80 comments, that should make up for the 6 thread minimum.

...if someone already suggested that hahah fml I am so sorry for repeating it!

Nooo this is good *^* Making a minimum of 6-7 @ 10 comm/thread sounds reasonable and I can definitely see your reasoning. The lack of backtagging here does suck sometimes I agree ):

Re: make-ups on AC, the mods/helpers would probably have to discuss that. It might be handled on a case-by-case basis if we changed the rules in that manner.

ie. AC shows that ___ # of characters didn't make the 2-post. Those characters need to reply with the 6-7 threads but Chara B has 4 threads of 112 comment total--they have no history of AC/apping issues! Pass :)

Chara A has no posts for the month but 14 threads of 30+ comments, roughly. Some spotty AC, but the character tends to be the sort to react rather than make entries. Iffy!

Chara C has 1 entry and 10 threads, but the threads get dropped. AC has been on-and-off recently, so in this case we might deliver a warning or something like that--but it depends on past AC/apps/drops as well.

Thoughts?

;~; I love backtagging ugh. As I said below, if you can't get back to someone within 12 hours or even two days because of work or school - bam, thread dropped. Boo.

Case-by-case basis, that's good! I know the mods are lenient enough as it is in the case of AC and having XX number of threads to make up for the lack of posting actual entries, but the make up on AC would probably help a lot more too in some cases, as long as it's within the month of the AC of course.

What do you mean though by 'apping issues'? :|a

For Chara C, if it's the Chara C who's dropping the threads then I can understand the warning, yep. For Chara A, that kind of sounds more like how Kahlan was in the April AC minus the apps/drops haha!

I'd say if someone has spotty AC one month that they should make sure to pass the next one or be given a warning. Or just if they don't pass one AC one month and fail to pass the next even with a warning, they're removed? Hrm.

[identity profile] orz-woeisme.livejournal.com 2011-05-14 07:33 pm (UTC)(link)
jksdgsk apping issues--like, they tend to app/drop in cycles, serially, recently apped/recently dropped--just anything that would put up a warning flag :) Maybe they've taken on more than they can handle, etc.

But yeah...it's really tragic )8 I try to backtag as much as possible but I notice some muns are way better about it than others so THERE IS A SILVER LINING IF YOU CAN FIND THEM.

And yeah on the spotty AC, that's usually how we do it :) Right now we've got a 3-month rule just put in place to watch for people passing AC on filtered/private posts or posts rushed at the end of the month.

[identity profile] herexcellency.livejournal.com 2011-05-14 07:37 pm (UTC)(link)
A three month rule, nice. Does that also include the lack of posts vs threads? ie posting way more threads to make up for AC because there isn't the required minimum of 2 posts.

[identity profile] orz-woeisme.livejournal.com 2011-05-14 07:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Right now it only tracks posts of characters--it doesn't look at the AC or threads they may have supplemented at the time. It's only once they pass the 3-month mark that we look back on all of that and then make a decision :)
