starting the groundwork ] [ art gallery
Recently, my characters have been getting to know a lot more artistic types in the castle. Mindy, Dave, Hardison, Neal, Jilly, Nora, Molotov (that picture of Brock counts)... Basically, there are a LOT of artistic types in the castle and even more, I'm sure, that my characters haven't met yet.
Jo is really good friends with Jilly and there has been talk, in the past, about getting her an art gallery in the city. Not something just for Jilly, but for all the artists to use. While living in the city after the whole 'Isis: Death of Sam' thing Jo has been looking for a bigger place to stay.
Apparently, 99% of the houses in the city of Paradisa aren't freestanding, but instead attached to a business front. So, you either find a business and live behind/upstairs or build your own house. Jo is going the business route, with an art gallery. This is going to be a surprise for Jilly, so she'll need help from other people. I'm just going to provide a list of things that will need to be done, and if you have a character that would be good for that let me know. That way I know how many of Jo's friends she needs to con into doing things vs. asking people in the castle for help.
1) Remodeling the interior of the business end. ie: ripping out old tile, putting down hardwood floors, putting up free-standing walls, patching up holes, repainting, putting in lighting that accents the paintings (that can be easily moved - track-lighting/etc), and temperature control-type things.
2) Making frames to hang the art. This will probably be a constant need, and will need to be custom done for each work of art depending on size.
3) Artists who want to have a showing or just sell their work.
4) People who know about art! That can or want to talk about the art that is up there. Neal is able to do reproductions of any masterpiece as long as he has a reference, so, no wishing up art would be needed. In fact, I'd like to stay away from wished up art. Sophie will be running the gallery, but this is still a good chance to get an easy job.
----
My goal is to have the gallery opening sometime in early April. Jo is having an IC discussion over beers on Feb 13th that is starting the ball rolling, and she's been mostly cleaning/dusting/mopping so she knows what needs to be done.
Once it's open - there will be day-time hours and then for specific featured showcases there will always be an evening 'Grand Opening' type event.
If you'd like to help or have any suggestions or comments - please don't hesitate to contact me here, via PM or via AIM @ onlysayinghello

I figure once Jo gets an idea of what work needs to be done - she'll make a post to the residents asking if anyone has ever had a gallery before, been to one, etc - since she's not the most fancy of girls.
Then she can get advice and also meet people!

I'll probably end up having Jo ask for advice first and then start asking for specific things she needs help with. So I'll make sure if I don't hear from Gino to drop you a note. I know the comm can move fast sometimes.

Nora is my resident artist. She wouldn't be caught dead showing her stuff in a gallery, though.

I totally understand about Nora, but should she feel like helping out any younger artists that want to display their works or just offering suggestions, that'd be cool too.

She'd probably visit... and she might help eveeeeeeentually. But right now she's too much of a teenage "fuck the system" rebel to be much help.

Jo will definitely be looking for local artists and I'm sure Jilly will be too.
