A two-day plot about all the things they don't tell you.

September 11th-12th

The castle is upset, and the night of September 10th, you can just feel it in the air. It’s a certain intensity, a yearning to do something and reach out to people, and something is just calling out to the residents, looking for attention. It feels needy, desperate.

It wants something, and no one can tell what.

And when it doesn’t get what it’s looking for... in retaliation, at midnight, the castle expends some energy to pull memories from people’s heads. A lot of them.

So much so that everyone* is going to suffer from amnesia about their lives. All they can remember is that they are in Paradisa, and their own name.

The castle will steal memories, from faces to names to events to places to times, and turn them into photographs and news articles and name tags and calendar pages and papers and comics and drawings and sounds and movies, and plaster them all over the walls, all over the castle, in no particular order. Everything is on display for everyone else.

Maybe your baby pictures are in the kitchen. Maybe there’s a DVD of your college graduation in one of the towers. Maybe a eulogy is pinned to the front doors, or a poster of the most incredible moment of your life. Maybe there’s a sound recording playing in someone else’s bathroom of your thirteenth birthday. Maybe a television set up in the stairs is playing the stormy night where your life changed.

All, of course, on public display.

Everything has a small label with the owner’s name on it, but with hundreds of thousands of things scattered everywhere, you may have to ask around, or maybe find weird things of other people’s, first. Whose first date was in a charming little Chinese buffet? Who crashed their car into the neighbour’s picket fence and prized magnolias? Who first made love on the floor during a storm? Who was murdered and reported about in the local newspaper?

It’s interesting to see pieces of other people’s lives. Things you’ve heard, things you’ve known, things you never saw coming. Things you wish they’d told you. Sad things. Funny things. Honest things.

Who are you? Where did you come from? No one knows themselves, but maybe everyone can find themselves and others in the mess.




Of course, at the end of the forty-eight hours, all memories return, but the evidence remains. What to do with it?

On Sunday night, residents can have a huge bonfire on the lawn to destroy all the things people don’t want a physical record of. It’s so bittersweet, to see your memories go up in flames, but who needs them when they’re safe in your head?

You can tuck things into your pockets, and hide them in your closet, or stash them away so you can keep them, if you’d like.

Memories that pertain to character’s permanent losses are fair game until the plot’s over; those will disappear at the end of the plot, regardless of circumstances.

I love this plot. It looks like it'll be a lot of fun.

But I has a questionnn! Arthur and Allen are on a bodyswap loss. Now, you mentioned they'd remember their name and Paradisa. But like...Just Paradisa as a place they're staying at, or the things Paradisa will do?

Like...Ah, will they know they're on a loss, or are they going to be confused as to why the wrong name is under all of 'their' memories?

This sounds so coooool +____+ oh my goodness. Do we have to decide how the memories are going to manifest, or should that just be worked out between the mun of the person who lost the memory and the mun of the person who finds it?

All of that will get worked out in the planning thread, but basically, we're using canon material as the memories :) If you don't have canon material, you can decide how it manifests.

I think we're going with the 9th. I want to avoid having it on the same night as plot starting, etc.

Awesome! So all of the memories will be physical items, and they can take them down and hide them until the Sunday bonfire if they wish? If they try to hide it, it's not going to pop up in another room as punishment?

This sounds fun, buuut.... Couple questions! I'm sorry ffff.

In relation to the first question that was asked, if I understand it right this means that say, Gino will be able to see major events in his life that the castle took as his loss? And anything he sees of it will be gone as soon as the plot's over?

And one of my characters has amnesia in canon. Would this mean everything he's done in game events would become his memories here? Raguna has nothing but after-amnesia memories and nothing of his original past was ever revealed.

He will! And anything connected to permanent losses disappears with the end of the plot. So at the end of the plot, for example, he'll remember watching a movie of some great event or something, but he won't have any physical record of it to rewatch. At the time, he wouldn't know it was something he would be missing normally, anyway.

Oh boy. Make memories of whatever you have to make memories of, and if that means Paradisa-only stuff, that works, too.

UMM So not sure if this was already answered and I just misread, but for the permanent losses, say if a picture of Linda pops up and Wally sees it, and he doesn't know who she is because she's his permanent loss

like

will the picture disappear, but he'll remember her face anyway? or like, will the picture disappear and he'll forget he ever saw it?

Here's how it would work:

During the plot, Wally could see a photo of Linda. It means nothing to him at all because he has zero memories. She's just a girl.

At the end of the plot, the picture will disappear, but he'll remember her face... and probably wonder who she was and why her photo had his name on it.

Are photos going to be in first person perspective from the character or is it up to the mun?

Most are probably going to be from third person (as that's what the clips, pictures, etc, people are posting are) but if you want to make them first person, that works too.

QUESTION. Timcanpy is a recorder and has essentially everything in DGM and Paradisa that he's been around for in him.

Would his memory be wiped as well? I'm mostly worried about Allen cheating and watching it.

I definitely want Rorschach, Kay and Lemony in on this. (Scans of the Beatrice Letters, AHOY.) Three people is a lot of stuff to get together in as many days, since technically I'm pretty sure I only have tonight and tomorrow night to do it.

Five is out, because he's already gotten a big chunk of plot with Caan's loss ... he'll probably get lost in the back-end of the TARDIS and just sort of shut himself away. (I was planning on doing that with him afterwards, anyway, so ... ;D)

Barney will be out, too, as fun as it would be to give him evidence of Ted - I've got a better idea for playing with Kay's head. I'm going to say he's incapacitated somehow during the plot, so he won't be able to fill his Awesome Crew in on who they are. I'm thinking maybe he'll get locked in the supply room of the WildKat by accident...?

Actually, I do have a question. The characters will remember their names, but will they automatically recognize themselves in a photo? Or does their own appearance count as a memory to be lost (until they find a mirror)?

You'd lose that too, but chances are one of the first things you do when you have amnesia is figure out who you are, and most rooms/bathrooms would have a mirror. I don't think it'd take long for characters to figure that part out :)

Another question...I SWEAR THIS IS THE LAST ONE.

What happens to characters' abilities? For example, Character X is a maths expert. Would he:

- forget all the formulas he had learned;
- have his expertise "blocked" from him by being unable to apply his knowledge until he finds a piece of his memories;
- or have his skillset and memories be mutually exclusive?

You'd still have them, but you'd have to find out you had them. Character X would probably have to find a situation where he had to do complex maths, and then discover he knew how to do it.

Question! So, yes. They wake up, all they know are their names and that they are in Paradisa. They just know... what extent about it, exactly? That Paradisa is where they "live", like, only that much drilled into their minds, or do they know the basic "kitchen's on the first floor" kind of bare bones about it all? Also, waking up in their rooms, or...?

Waking up in their rooms, and they know the gist of Paradisa: sentient castle that kidnaps you from any point in time, takes something from you, and occasionally puts you through the ringer. Kitchen's on the first floor, etc, etc. Basically, nobody should be freaking out like "WHERE AM I???"
