Insanity Loss – a primer and permissions

Starting later today, Felix will re-emerge from his ritual completely insane. This will replicate the same magical affliction he endured during the majority of the first book. Obviously it’s difficult to put down exact rules for insanity, but Felix’s madness has a few basic guidelines:

-He will rarely recognize people as who they are. Often they will appear with the heads of monsters, or people from his past, or even only as vague shapes or colors
-He will sometimes be unable to comprehend speech, or hear only horrific booming noises instead
-Similarly, he will sometimes forget how or be unable to speak himself
-He will sometimes see colors around people which correspond to their mood
-He appears to lack the ability to filter his dreams and have more frequent and very vivid nightmares
-Canonically he can see and hear ghosts (though I’m not sure there are any in Paradisa to actually see)
-He will also experience various other visual hallucinations
-He is extremely sensitive to magic and any magic being done to him/around him will only make his condition worsen rather than improve. Given the castle’s nature, he’ll rarely be very lucid, unless anyone puts this together and removes him from it)
-He will not remember a lot of what happens once it’s over
-His magic will also not function for the duration

It should be mentioned that there is an intuitive nature to Felix’s hallucinations due to the fact that the affliction is magical rather than mental. When he sees people as animals, they are reflections of that person’s true personality or nature (the short-spoken and imposing Lord Protector appears as bear, his brother appears as a fox even before he knows his nickname, etc). The colors he interprets as feelings are entirely accurate and often can be read even when a person’s face or voice cannot as easily be so. The ghosts he sees are real, and he actually sees a curse attached to someone he would not have known was there otherwise.

To aid me as I write Felix for the duration of this loss, I’d be appreciative if anyone threading with him in person fill out this form to give me inspiration, especially if I am not familiar enough with the character to make it up myself.

If there are spoilery or sensitive subjects in your permissions that you wish to keep private, please feel free to PM the form to me instead. Post here with completed permissions, questions, or plotting. The loss will end sometime shortly before Halloween, though I have yet to settle on a date. This is as vulnerable as Felix is ever likely to get. He will also be very bad at functioning like a person and will likely need supervision like a five-year old to make sure he eats/bathes/dresses, not to mention the random wandering off for reasons he won’t quite be able to articulate to people. Enjoy that. I know I will. :3

EDIT: First post is here.

Since they'll run into each other at some point:

Character: Howl | [personal profile] strangewonders

What Felix might see this character as: My first thought was 'Welsh Dragon' but I think that might be a bit much. ;) I guess it depends. Howl acts like an arrogant jerk, but isn't really. Then again, there's enough else going on with him that maybe he'd just be emotions and magic and not clear enough for an animal at all. Up to how you think Felix would interpret all that, I guess.

Reading auras? Yes.

Other magical affects: Howl has a few things going on. Firstly, he's been cursed by the Witch of the Waste. It's really more of a way for her to track him down than a traditional kind of curse, though, so it might just be something vague swirling about him, if anything. The bigger thing is the spell that binds him to Calcifer and keeps him alive, given his heart is literally in another dimension at this point. Not sure how that might show up other than a creepy black hole in his chest, or something of the type? I'm happy to discuss. The book is unfortunately kind of vague on all of this, especially the Witch's curse.

Would you like Felix to remember any of this post-loss? Felix is welcome to remember as much as you'd like.
