HOW'S THE GAME?

It's time for another round of Game Discussion, also known as

HOW'S THE GAME?

Here we come together to discuss the game, its plots, the settings, and just about anything we can think of that we'd like to talk about, expand upon, improve, change, etc.

This is not an HMD for players and their characters; this should be about the game's function as a whole and not the people in it. If there is something you feel is absolutely necessary to address that involves a specific person, please IM a mod first to discuss it. We can be reached at valawie (Valerie), fan of todd (TF), or never die ftw (Ashley).

Anonymous will be left off for this round. Sock journals are allowed, but you will have to request comm access to post with them.

Here are the sections that we've come up with. Add your own, and we'll edit it into the list. :)

Personally I would love to see more character-focused plots. Even plots not strictly involving the castle messing with people. Those are fun too, but it'd be awesome to see more of a mix that wasn't the specific result of castle tomfoolery. I'm not sure exactly what, but villain plots in particular or plots that aren't the direct result of a loss are nice to see now and then!

Also more plots that are like... deeper in the revealing-character kind of way. (Like the headspace room plot?) Those types of plots are my favorite for building CR aside from situational plots, and it feels like it's been a while since we've had one.

(Also, space.)

yes yes yes. this. we have such an interesting mix of characters, and it's always the plots that stem from ic-actions not specifically tied to sudden castle losses that I find the most compelling around here.

So the question becomes, what's the best way to encourage this? Because obviously the plotting meme alone is not enough?

I'm not sure what would be another way to encourage this. I know I could do better with maybe posting to the OOC when I do things with my character that could involve more people, it's just a balance of wanting to plot with people and not wanting to seem self-important maybe? But really, it feels more organic when the castle isn't relied on to provide most of the major conflict and development. It'd help a lot to mix up casts from different canons too.

We've had a few things in the past, but it'd be wonderful to see them more frequently!

There have been some really fun introspective plots, like the headspace and the dream plots. I would really love to see more of those but yeah... No big ideas come to mind at the moment.

Those tend to be my favorite. I learn about canons I don't know about, so they're very fun to stalk. And playing a character who shares nothing and asks nobody to share things with him, it's really a major way I get around that!

I don't have any ideas right now, but it's worth brainstorming.

I like the idea of having the characters walk through other people's dreams. It can be an opt-in with those affected suddenly struck with some kind of sleeping disease? But then they're actually 'awake' in this dreamspace and can interact with the others who are also asleep, and maybe the castle's presence is stronger when they sleep and they... hear things. Then the people outside can save them while asleep? IDK BUT I LOVE THIS IDEA

Something like that can be really cool. I know there have been similar dream-ish plots in the past, but they can always be tweaked in a new way or have a twist thrown in. And I really love the idea of the castle's presence being stronger when they're asleep too!

(I'm probably being redundant here, but I want to strongly encourage this. Those types of plots never get old for me.) :)

I plan to slowly build up a villain plot with this guy here. He's well-known and widely feared in his canon but not here obviously so that might take awhile, I think Katherine Pierce may help with spreading the word however. Hopefully something comes out of it~

What do you like best about villain plots? What do you like about them?

I totally encourage that! It's refreshing when a character can't blame actions on losses. And it gives characters other things to focus on, which is definitely needed between castle-related mischief plots.

I'd love to see more drawn out plots with a villain that builds up in the background. It'd be interesting to deal with now that the previous justice system that was around has broken up. I'm not as excited about the HEROES VS BAD GUYS show downs, but all the stuff in between and after can be a lot of fun to play out. And playing a morally-gray character, I always like to test reactions to those types of situations.

YEEES~ I'm so excited to use Klaus that way (same person here) since he enjoys pitting people against each other as well. I think most characters are morally gray actually, although the fandom might draw clear lines between HEROES and VILLAINS, but say the heroes kill people as well or have not so selfless intentions. It'd be interesting to have them confront that during their interactions with the so-called villains and find that they can't blame everything on the castle after all.

Absolutely. :) That sounds like exactly what we need.

And also, since I know this was briefly discussed on Plurk, perhaps we could have a return of the memory plot? I have a lot of fond memories of it, and it led to some really beautiful CR opportunities.

That was back in 2009, and there's been a lot of character/mun turnover, enough that it would be fresh for people.
gottaknockhard: (it's funny)

[personal profile] gottaknockhard 2012-06-10 02:54 am (UTC)(link)
I would also love that! I've been bummed that I missed it every since I heard about it, so I think a lot of people would enjoy the opportunity to get another chance at it.

Adachi player here on the other character account, but BACK WHEN I STILL JAD A CAST (; A; jk jk hkdfhbjkd) Kaye and I were discussing a Persona 4 plot.

Complete with SHADOWS FOR EVERYONE involved

That would be awfully character-revealing 8}c But I'm waiting on what a future cast might think (because fuck guys you don't want Adachi to be the only persona wielding P4 character in this scenario ok even if he is being a good boy)

That sounds amazing...! I hope this can still happen when you get your castmates back. <:
