It's time for another round of Game Discussion, also known as

HOW'S THE GAME?


Here we come together to discuss the game, its plots, the settings, and just about anything we can think of that we'd like to talk about, expand upon, improve, change, etc.


This is not an HMD for players and their characters; this should be about the game's function as a whole and not the people in it. If there is something you feel is absolutely necessary to address that involves a specific person, please IM a mod first to discuss it. We can be reached at valawie (Valerie), fan of todd (TF), or never die ftw (Ashley).

Anonymous will be left off for this round. Sock journals are allowed, but you will have to request comm access to post with them.

Change is scary! That's absolutely one of the reasons why the plot is up for discussion. Hopefully, a little talking can make it less so and put your fears to rest.

The plot might be traumatic to some, this is true -- it will certainly be darker for some than it would for others. But NO character will be placed in a position they're forced to flounder or fail; as discussed in some of the other comments, it's pretty solid that there will be townspeople npc's and some sort of "life" to fall back on. No one is going to be tossed into the wild with just their wits to survive on; it will just not be the lavish lifestyle they're used to in the castle. You might have to go to work or mooch off someone else's generosity instead of wishing up your food, or do your own laundry, etc.

I can also see it creating resentment in characters, and some people after every plot generally trickle away from the castle and live in town or go wander off for a bit. It's inevitable after plots with darker elements some characters will go FUCK THIS, basically! But the Dead Zone is rather openly hostile for the current generation of Paradisa, and there are ways around having your character able to go out there never to return even if that's their IC choice. (The castle can rebound them back inside, for example, or they go on a loss every time they try.) It doesn't destroy the resentment, though. That's something people will have to sort through and we can talk about that for sure.

I see what you're saying. And I'm really interested in the payout, i.e. the possibility of castle communication and more castle features (I've wondered frequently why there weren't more bizarre rooms like the 4 seasons and the insolitus).

I think with an already present infrastructure that it would be less tedious for the players. Starting entirely from scratch would be too much of a bother to play out, but I'm seeing potential in this if it's less a "farm-or-die" scenario and more a...insert pc's, receive community? I'm not sure how to articulate it.

I do agree with some of the others in that the plot could probably be shorted by a month or so. At least. Give the residents time to interact with new-and-improved castle...maybe do some of those expeditions mentioned before the world plot kicks back in.
