You could do something weird, like, knock them out and have a projection of them in their rooms like "WHAT IS GOING ON. D8" as well, but you know. However you want to spin this. It'd still make sense and be fair if their area of observation is confined to their rooms though, I think.
It can be any of the above. You can totally have a stand-alone post describing the room and only the room, and the respective character never even has to interact with it. They can be off and oblivious somewhere else, but the headspace room will still be there. That's mostly if you wanted to have other characters wander in and maybe interact with parts of the room--your comments back could be descriptions of what they find, or strange things that happen, or whatever.
OR if you want the character can be involved in the room and that could be how it's posted! But for folks who CAN'T get there--yeah, the character doesn't necessarily need to be there to make the room into a post. It just means that those characters obviously wouldn't be out and exploring other rooms.
