Expedition 2011 | Lente's Point | Schedule

The Lente's Point Expedition is due to start shortly. All the information you need is right here. If you haven't already, there is plenty of time to get yourself signed up before the departure. All relevant plot threads will be linked below as they go up.

an
expedition

tuesday, june 14th - friday, june 17th

Summary

Lente's Point.

The name had been on the map for months and months, and no one had yet
ventured out there, despite it being only a day's walk from the
border. Another time, they'd thought –– the castle was bustling,
Mineas Well looked promising, and there would be time for another
adventure soon.

Later on, through the grapevine, the residents discovered that Lente
is an actual person, still living out there. Little is known about
her, other than her solitary nature and her refusal to be around
strangers unarmed. She ventures to Mineas Well sometimes.

It won't be too terribly difficult, getting to Lente's place. There
will be things to see along the way, along with new animals to
discover. When they get there, however, it might get tricky: Lente is
a fickle sharpshooter, and her wisdom is not easily won. With the
right approach, a huge bounty of information could be theirs.

This plot will largely be directed by Rebecca (Felix-mun), as she is
leading this expedition. We want characters to own this expedition, so
posts will be made and directed by characters, rather than the mod
journal –– we want characters to have a lot of free rein to explore
the area without too much in the way of schedule. Lente and that will
step in as needed, but once we know how things are setting up, we'll
try to get a post up that details more about her so characters know
what they're dealing with.

Tuesday, June 14th
The residents head towards Lente's Point, taking the TARDIS up to the
Dead Zone's border and continuing from there on foot. Camping,
sightseeing, shenanigans, you know the drill. This is where the fun be
had.

Wednesday, June 15th
The residents start through the woods, discovering many a fantastical
thing... only to find themselves trespassing on Lente's territory.
Jeez, is there a single place out here that doesn't belong to someone?
It might be an interesting night.

Thursday, June 16th
Lente's fort, and some bean-spilling... but how many beans remains to
be seen.

Friday, June 17th
The residents head home.

Geography

Across the border of the Dead Zone brings the residents into a region
called Blossom Drifts. Despite its name, it really isn't all
too blossomy, nor drifty: but maybe it's just the wrong season for
that. From a distance, one can see that the ground steadily builds
upwards in a rolling fashion, with the largest hill visible above all
the others. It barely obscures a large lake.

Despite the hilly terrain, the slopes are gentle enough that travel
isn't too difficult. Carts or wagons, however, might have some
difficulty passing through lush grass, and then even more difficulty
when the tree-line hits. In fact, much of the Drifts are forested, and
the roots have a tendency to weave up and down out of the ground.
tripping is easy -- just make sure you don't tumble down a hill and
wind up in one of the many creeks.

Flora

The trees in the region are relatively tall, with thick trunks and
gradually thinning branches that host a very dense canopy of leaves.
Because of this canopy, much of the sunlight is blocked, meaning there
isn't too much in the way of undergrowth. Areas with thinning trees
are a little less forgiving, as shrubs and smaller trees have cropped
up where there is a lot more sunlight. The trees resemble those found
in tropical rainforests on Earth on a cursory glance, but if one
looked closer, they might find some things a little peculiar: the
trees' trunks feel like rubber, as their bark is more like a
protective sheath. These trees make up the majority.

There are many groups of fruit-bearing trees, as well. The predominant
kind of fruit-bearing tree grows fruit that look almost like grapes,
though very translucent; one can see the pit and seeds inside, as well
as a gummy-looking flesh. These ones taste citrusy, though they have a
salty bite to them, too. Perhaps not everyone's preference, but
probably good with tequila shots. The other kind of fruit-bearing tree
is actually a shrub that grows long, narrow berries about the
dimensions of a bobby-pin. They are purple in color and stain things
easily, but they taste very sweet. Both would flower in the spring.

Fauna

The forest is populated by bizarre-looking birds in all sorts of
colours; most of them look like parrots from the shoulders up, but
they can use the joints of their wings like bat-like hands, and they
also seem to prefer hanging upside-down from branches with their feet
instead of perching on them. No two "parrot" looks alike, but they
sure sound loud. They eat the berries found in the woods, so it isn't
rare to have them drop juicy purple berry-bits on the heads of
unsuspecting travelers. Their diet being what it is, their droppings
don't look much different.

There are also herds of horse-like creatures that don't seem at all
suited to the terrain but get along surprisingly well. While their
bodies are similar to horses, they are actually much bulkier and more
muscular, and their coats are a sheeny turquoise with assorted white
markings. Their manes are white, and more like a lion's mane.
Disposition-wise, they are very friendly, but at 6' at the shoulder
they can be quite easy to spook. They can be tamed and ridden, with a
lot of time and effort, and they make for much hardier and faster
steeds out in the Dead Zone –– perhaps something to think of in the
future.

On Using [livejournal.com profile] paradisabeyond

For this expedition, we are giving [livejournal.com profile] paradisabeyond a shot
–– it is an alternate community intended for expeditions to take
place on, so that a) it is not clogging up the main community for non-
expeditioners and b) world plot is in one place so that everything
taking place out there can be read in order without having to sort
through a dozen different tags.

So this is how it is going to work:

℘ It is an action-spam community (as it is the more popular format
here in good old Paradisa) but it is not a journal system.
Entries there are assumed to be action-only, though residents on
expedition are still welcome to work on [livejournal.com profile] paradisa if their
characters want to write/talk to people back at the castle.

℘ The tagging system will allow to tag by characters names just how
they are in the main comm, but we will also be tagging by region/area/
location in the future. Just for your reference, as this isn't really
something to worry about until we have the new map with regions.

℘ Membership is moderated; please join as soon as possible.
