I kinda dig the sheer scale of the city, because of how much it offers -- zoos, parks, shopping, museums, excursions, street parties, parades, clubs, dining, drinking, etc. People still came together at school and drive-thrus and stuff, and we had a lot of random groups working in the same Taco Bell or similar, because everyone was still confined to this downtown sector. I think the failing of LA was that everyone was focused on their celebrity lives, a-la-Hollywood, while NYC was a lot more grounded.
If we can capture the intensity of NYC with the longer time-span of LA, I think we're golden. Make sure people stay in close-knit groups. All the teenagers at the same high school, all the kids at the same elementary school, more people in the same part-time jobs or full-time jobs, etc., and make sure mingling posts go up.
